My Simon under no circumstances will give up his toy.He just walks/runs around with it anytime he has it.The only time he drops it is when he believes no one is paying attention to him and he then barks up a storm to have someone throw it to him.

The easiest way I've found to get his beloved toy from him is for me to go inside the shed, close the door and wait till I hear barking.I can then go out get the toy, pretend to throw it and then run inside and hide it.I hate getting his toy from him in this manner but at some point play-time has to end and its time to go in.Is this a good way to get his toy or are there better ways?

Also how many others doxies' here can't help but lick your face and always have to have their face/neck against your face?

you must have a snuggler/lover/kisser! you lucky devil!!! I have 2 and wouldn't trade them for the world!! I'd say from my own experience the 5 I've had well yup they've all been that way. As for the toy thing that I can't help with. I've always have two at a time so they always steal and share toys together!

Our dog Annie is the same way. She'll run all through the house to find one of the many tennis balls we have laying around and grabs it to play and when she wants you to play she'll drop it for you to pick up and just when you get near it she runs like sixty with it and then drops it again and also barks at you as if she's saying she wants you to throw it.

I have the same problem with Ms. Lucy. You'll just have to learn to fuss at them until they get the point that your in charge and play time is over.....lots of NO NO NO NO, DROP IT, NO NO NO. They'll get the point sooner or later.

Every dachshund I've ever had does the face licking thing. It's actually a proper greeting in the dog world. My Simon-angel (waiting for me at Rainbow Bridge) used to try to smother me with his face and neck.

Porky has always shared his food, toys, etc... with anybody that wanted them so I can't be much help on the toy issue.  He does do the face licking thing too.  Its just part of their way to show they love you.   Porky likes to give you a kiss on the face then he sits down beside you or on your lap and licks your arms and hands.  He likes everything clean.   My mom and I joke and say Porky watches the tv show "Monk" way too much.   :2funny:

My three always steal toys from each other....each wants what the other has and when they get it, they are no longer interested in it.  My Winston is a snuggler and a face wrapper....he loves to climb on his daddy's belly and smother daddy with his face...it is too cute!!!  You are so lucky to have a licker/snuggler/cuddler....there is nothing better :headbang:
