Well, the destination and visit with grandma and misc relatives was nice but the trip there and back was horrid.  Without going into much detail, after delays and delays and being herded like sheep in the airport, Mark and I have decided that the next time we travel, it will be by TRAIN.

And now on to the doggers.  It seems that mostly, everything went all right with the sitter (Auntie Tati) however, once again the girls both looked like footballs (overfed AGAIN) when we finally arrived late Monday night.  And another thing......Maddie was puking up this clear mucus stuff about every 5 minutes.  She really seemed sick and I feared a blockage of some kind.  As she was sicking up all night Monday, I finally just put used towels all over the bed and let her have at it.  I got about one hour of sleep that night.

The next day, we took her to the vet.  Of course after an X-ray, bloodwork, a shot to stop the pukes and misc handling totalling over $300.00, they didn't find anything!!!!  Madison has now received a newmiddle name.....KaChing!  She is feeling better now but is still coughing.  We figured it was a sore throat for all the barfing she did a few nights ago.  She is on the mend, however, and I'm glad.

I'm sure the pet sitter did not intend to overfeed them but it happened.  I had SPECIFIC instructions on how much and when they are fed and STRESSED the fact that they can manipulate you into thinking they are starving all the time.  Tati must have come under their spell.  As a result of this first time experiment with a pet sitter, I'm leaning on kenneling them the next time.  At least they won't be fed into a stupor.  We have 2 highly recommended boarding facilities here in town.  One is practically across the street from me.

A few little rays for Maddie would be lovely.  She ate kibble for the first time today after 2 days of brown rice, pumpkin and egg.  She seemed much more active tonight, though she is currently in nap mode along with Dolly.  I got the pumpkin and green beans at the ready for preparation of getting some of the 6 day extra girth off of them.

Anyway, we're back and hopefully, the Roo is over her yuckies.

PS.....of course all this could have been just STRESS.  Maybe her second middle name should be Manipulative.  She DID NOT want us to go and showed in in her own way.  :nana:

Sandi, I always thought it would be fun to travel cross-country by train.
I hope both your girls are in good shape and feeling better soon.  Sounds like the over-eating really got to Maddie.

Mike

Welcome back!!!  Sorry to see Maddie had some issues.  Hopefully she will be back to 100% real fast.

I travelled from Chicago to Denver (actually Glenwood Springs just north of Aspen) 20 years ago via Amtrak's California Zephyr.  It was nice to be able to move around and the observation car was pretty nice with all the windows.  By and large, it was kind of boring.  It took 24 hours to travel the 1100 miles and the cost was about the same as flying.  As I was with a ski club, there were others to interact with.  The seats only reclined to about 45 degrees, so I hope you can sleep "sitting up".  The food was so-so.
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

Brekke says "hi" to your girls and hopes they are both feeling good enough to do zoomies!
