Leslie

as we travel the roller coaster of her latest spine thing.  The drugs have made her so wobbly and sad. (not that her appetite has decreased.)  Since she hadn't pooped since Sunday,  mom had to, uh, help her out.  Later last night she did stand in her crate to pee, and I quick put her out.  She laid in the grass like a dead dawg. I thought, this is it, we'll be at the spine surgeons tommorrow. I quick ran over to close the back door, I turn around and she's standing there POOPIN' .  After a half hour of rest she's in her crate hootin' and hollering for a chewie.

2 Speeds:  Nearly dead and Flat out full tilt bonkers.  Good grief.  Mom could also use some rays as I am BEAT.

She is going to the vet tonight for a follow up.  He is going to switch her over to Prednisone (over the weekend--which makes me feel hinky BUT at least I will be there to keep an eye on her.)  and he might reccommend a myleogram.  He is not happy about how she keeps knuckle walking on her front legs.  But last night, she had a small chewie and held that in her front paws, just fine. The little booger. Then she started barkin' and Zuzu started howlin' and mom just went in a took a shower.

and a note on Methacarbonal.  They give this stuff to ELEPHANTS so be veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery carefully with the dose.

Thanks, gang!

After the vet visit Thursday night:
First of all she yelped loudly this evening when we gave her a strawberry.  I looked at DH and sed: "Neck"

As it turns out what we thought was side effect of the sedating drug--her knuckle walking--may indeed be a neck thing.  Since two weeks ago we originally thought back--and vet only x-rayed back--we may have missed a concurrent cervical neck thing.  Hoping to get into the nuerologist tommorrow and the break here is that we don't have to drive two hours--only one hour to Metropalotian in Valley Forge.

They will do diagnostic testing from there and decide course of action.  Bottom line: continued crate rest or cervical fenistration. Will know more tommorrow night.  Hope to check in with you all in 24 hours.  She has a few things going in her favor. Her back legs are functioning well with no nuero symptoms, she is still eating, pooping and peeing.  (Not peeing when we want her, but I can live a few wet towels in the crate.)    I feel a little guilty as I feel she may have injured herself while on crate rest.  SHe is a rowdy little dog and not easily managed at times, I sure hope I didn't hurt her.  :comfort: so many of our puupers are on the sick list, I am praying for speeding recoveries for all.  I actually fell kinda calm during all this.  If I can get enough rest and keep eating (the blood sugar thing) I think I'll be okay.  ALso, no howling would be  plus. :verdict:
Shakespeare : "To thine own self be true."
Popeye:  "I yam wot I yam."

Brace yourself for the predisone. It works but it can make them pee a lot, and not sleep. Our Eddie was very naughty. Stealing food off plates when we were eating, off the coffee table, out of  the garbage etc. etc. He just didn't care about consequences. All things that he never did before predisone.
I sure hope Loki if feeling better soon.

Oh no - Les - nothing more frustrating than not having a good firm answer as to what is going on.  Sending massive rays and prayers to both Loki AND mom...... When they are not well, it takes a huge toll on us - so take care of yourself.  Please keep us posted -

Poor you guys! I can only imagine how wearing it is emotionally on the humans and physically and emotionally for Loki. It's been bad enough when Gretchen has had episodes and she has responded to the meds (and the surgery) very well. How frustrating for you guys. Let us know how the vet visit goes.

Handle every "Situation" like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
tinkle on it and walk away.

Yikes!!!  Well, the neck is easier than the lumbar, trust me on this.  The only thing is the very last disk before the shoulder/rib cage can only be reached from the back of the neck.  The other disks are handled through the throat.  Clifford had the throat ones fenestrated, then 6 weeks later the "other" disk blew and we had to go back in for surgery.  But he is an extremely rare case.  The surgeon was astounded to see him that 3rd time.  We'll be sending up lots of rays that neither are required, but including a few extra just in case...

PS, green beans make a great treat to make them think they are getting lots and lots of food.  Just be sure to wear armor on your fingers ...
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

Holy cr@p this makes me cringe.  Will pray hard for Loki.   I have had good luck with prednisone in the past.  If Loki has any more trouble pooping, a couple of prunes will help.
