He is getting his "big snip" in about 20 minutes, and he will get a rabies shot, as well as them taking a look at the mole/growth on his left foreleg.  We waited awhile to do this, because our vet's office just moved a week and a half ago, to their brand new, big facility with dog grooming, luxury boarding, and 24-hour emergency care - whew!  Brekke and I accompanied the patient, where Dr. Takata will be doing his surgery, and wished him well as we headed back home.  I have never had a boy dachsie neutered before - any sage advice?

Sending rays for a clean bill of health for Mr R.  Advice?  hmmmm, good luck keeping him from jumping like a frog.  The night of Clifford's operation I found him standing on the dining room table looking for food.

As far as the boys go,  Ours had cones and hated them after the surgury.  The plumper of the two would just back under the chair and slip his head out.  (head diameter < neck diameter)  Keep them quiet for the recommended time and watch the food.  The smaller of the two had an upset stomach for a couple of days so eggies or rice may be in order.

Good to know!  I talked to the assisting vet tech about 8 minutes ago, and Dr. Takata recommended sending off the mole for a biopsy, and I am all for that!  He will have a cone, alas, but his ears stand out so I am hoping that he won't be able to slip off that e-collar until it's supposed to be off.  I have been mopping floors with disinfectant, and washing all the dog bedding so everything will be clean for my patient.  Brekke is missing her brudder - it is so cute!  She walks around looking for him, and has made the rounds outside as well.  I am to call back at four and see when he can come home.  He was standing by 2:30, so that sounded good to me.

Rays to Robin!  Oh, that's sooooo cute that Brekke misses her brudder!  Never having male puppers, I woudn't know what to do, either.  I'm sure everything will be just fine!

Healing rays for poor Master Robinton.  Solly was already neutered when I got him, so I can't help you there.  Just keep him quiet as possible (lots of luck), and he will bounce back sooner than you think.

tinkle on it and walk away.

Get well soon Robinton the only thing to look out for is redness and swelling big time have had 3 boys done when you get him home note what it looks like that way you can tell if it looks different their usually is a little swelling but that is normal.I was surprised when I had Buddy done they used glue to close the incision.

PS: If the cone will not stay on his head and he is bothering his incision you can take a hand towel the fuffy kind wrap it around his neck and tape it well then he cannot turn his head to lick.

He has 1/2 of a Rimadyl to take, twice a day for four days.  Dr. Takata said she didn't think he'd want to eat (what, a dachsie?) but to give him a little kibble if he seemed interested.  He has the cone, and stitches there and on the left forepaw, where they removed the growth and are sending it off to be biopsied.  He didn't seem starved, or even hungry, but he did look bummed out, until we gave him four tiny, well-spread out bites of sirloin tip roast.  (I know, bad Mama - we're bonded, and I caved to see the look in his eyes.)  They didn't upset his tummy, so it worked to tide him over until breakfast time.

If you can give him the Rimadyl for less than 4 days, I would. Robinton may do just fine, but after Schatzi experience with the anti-inflammatory after surgery, I was glad I only gave it to her for 3 days. She was fine on the third day after her spaying and didn't need it. I decided that when she could easily flip over for belly rubbing, she was probably okay without pain meds. I know a lot of people use Rimadyl, but I also know that from now on with Schatzi I will be hesitant. I'm just praying she doesn't need it or any other type of anti-inflammatory drug.

Just thought of a nick name for him Rock'in Robin. OK so I tried.

With our HEFTY one the towel would slip off like everything else.  we cannot use a regular colar, we use a harness.

Brekkesmom

I have not had to try a towel.  He has a really neat (to me!) e-collar.  It has three plastic loops on the smaller side, and they used surgical gauze and looped it through them, as well as looping it around his collar.  so even though it may come undone, it has not come off.  We will finish up his meds, and so far, he has come through it very well.  He is still my snuggle bunny and if I am outside, so is he.  As most of you know, there is no privacy with a dachsie, so when I'm in the shower, he's on the bathmat, and you all know where he is if you're in the bathroom for any other reason!  He still wants to eat anything I'll give him, so I don't think the Rimadyl is having a "feed me!" effect on him.  We go back in 6 to 10 days to get his stitches out, and now that I have all his paperwork, it's time to get this boy licensed.  Btw, he has a new turquoise collar, and his name tag and rabies tag are on it now, so he likes his jingling collar.

Yay for Robinton!  He sounds like he's coming along nicely.  Got new bling, huh?  Madderoo LOVES her bling.  She has tags from 3 counties and loves to wear them all so that she really jingles when she walks.

Brekkesmom

Yup, it's all about the bling.
Dr. Takata, the vet who did his surgery called last night at 8:10 to tell me the mole on his left paw was just a sebaceous tumor, and not malignant, and they got it all - yay!
