Something is definitely bothering Zeke, but I can't seem to figure out the cause.   Periodically, you hear him grunting or yelping.   I know how to do the basic checks for IVDD, and that seems to be negative.   I also know the signs of a pinched nerve in the neck, which also seems to be negative.  I emptied his anal glands, which did get a yelp, but that may have been because I was manipulating the area that was sore, not necessarily the anal glands.  I've got an appointment for him tomorrow, so we'll let the vet check it out.

So far, I've only been able to narrow it down to somewhere on his back half.   This evening when he tried to rear up to lick me on the face, he yelped.   I'm really kind of in the dark on this one.  Nothing in my experiences with Rudy-angel or Max-angel was similar to this.   I'm leaning towards a pinched nerve in his lower back, but we'll let the vet decide.

Rays coming Zeke's way.  That was how Clifford started with his 1st disk rupture.  It took about 3 months to fully blow and I was ignorant on what was happening.  You're well ahead of the game in that respect.
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

Rays to Zeke hope the vet will find out what is wrong and can fix it quick.

I hate to hear this kind of news but am hoping and praying that it's something that can be taken care of easily.  Rays coming to our dawg Zeke.

Poor Zeke. I agree with Mike, these are the classic signs of a disc problem brewing. About 80% of discs happen in the upper lumbar, where it sounds like Zeke's problem is. My guess is when you did his anal sacs, it made him arch his back and cause pain where the disc problem is. They often don't exhibit a pain response when being palpated or manipulated. They also don't always have any proprioception deficits and can still have a disc problem. You might want to keep him crated or at least confined until he can see the doc tomorrow. If it is a herniating disc, one small wrong move can be all it takes for a full blown rupture. Let us know what happens tomorrow we'll be sending rays.

Sounds exactly how Winston acted this past year when he had a slight episode.  I would definitely keep Zeke confined until he sees the vet.  Poor baby....please keep us posted on how it goes at the doctor.      Prayers and  :comfort: :comfort: :comfort: coming your way.

We saw the vet.   Fortunately, things seem relatively minor at this point.   The vet found that Zeke had some inflammation on one of the discs on the thorastic (sp?) vertabrae,  between his neck and his belly.   He has full neurological function.

He was given an anti-inflammatory injection, a prescription of Rimadyl and crate rest for the next five days.   Zora has joined him in the crate out of sympathy.

Zeke felt well enough to tangle with one of the vet hospital cats.   The cat was on the counter, Zeke was on the ground.  He tried to launch himself up to the cat.  The cat bent down to swipe at him.  I swear cats must have telescoping forelegs.  It looked like the cat's leg double in length, enough to nail Zeke on the snout.

Zeke here:  Anyone want to bust me out of here?   Crate rest stinks!

Poor Zeke. Hallie can relate to the crate rest thing. Not fun. You got off easy with just 5 days bud, it's usually 2-8 weeks! He has an unusual place for a bad disc, usually the thoracic area (the part of the spine the ribs come off of) is extra protected by a strong ligament that runs down that area and discs don't usually bother them there. It sounds pretty mild at this point, be strict on the crate rest, no matter what stories he tells you!  :thumb:
