An interesting outing.

I went with a friend and her son to a friend of theirs house today. This person has a goat farm. She raises the goats, sells some of them, and is starting to sell the milk. She is currently building a small milk processing building. She also makes soap using the goat milk. She currently has 11 new goats, all less than two weeks old. We had a blast, feeding a couple of them and just looking at them all and watching their antics. One baby was just born this morning. She was walking around pretty well, but it was hilarious watching her try to figure out how to lay back down. She just couldn't figure out which legs to fold under first!
I was most impressed with Lana. She is a Wildlife Guardian dog. Lana has helped with most of the births of the goats. She will usually tear the sac, and has even been known to help pull the babies out when necessary. Occasionally she will help the mom clean the baby off, especially if twins are being born. The person who has the goats said that Lana can be outside near their house, but when she hears one of the laboring goats let out a cry, signaling that birth is close, she will come running to the barn and be there until the baby or babies are born. I would have loved to have captured a picture of Lana when she was on the ground with two youngsters jumping on top of her! They were too fast for me. Here are a couple of pictures from the trip.

This is a picture of Lark and Wren. They are two of a set of triplets. Their mom isn't too bright and does best keeping up with just one kid. Also, they were pretty small and bottle feeding works best for them. They are 3 days old now.

This is the baby (and it's mother) that was just born today. Mom decided that she really liked the camera.

Here is Lana. She is a real beauty and is right at home among all the goats. They seem perfectly content to have her around, also.

Looks like you had quite an adventure.  The baby goats sure are cuties.  Did you try any of the goat milk?  I've heard it is something else to taste.  Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Handle every "Situation" like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
tinkle on it and walk away.

I didn't try any of the goat's milk yesterday. Right now she is using all the milk to keep the babies fed. In a couple of months, she will start having milk to store. I've been reading about the whole process some and it is quite interesting. My co-worker gets milk from her quite often and likes it. I'll have to get brave this summer and see what I think.
