After years of trying, Ron convinced me to put the bed in our spare bedroom in our room and sell our bed. The spare bedroom bed is nicer and newer, but it's not as high and we've caught Gretchen on it. I didn't want to deal with that in our room. As we're tearing the beds down, my mind is trying to figure a way to make this bed taller. As we're putting the mattress on it, it comes to me. We have a mattress in the spare bedroom. Why not put it on this bed? After all, it's now just up against the wall. I mention it to Ron and he's telling me it would be way too high - beds weren't made to put 2 mattresses on them. How can it be too high when you have a dachshund with a bad back in the house? I have to see to believe. We drag this mattress BACK into our room and plop it on the bed. I'm staring at the bed and trying to get the words "Whose stupid idea was this?" out of my mouth but I know as soon as I open my mouth, all I'll be able to do is laugh. I can feel Ron staring at me and I can see him standing there with his arms across his chest out of the corner of my eye. I broke down and couldn't stop! Tears were rolling down my face. I would kind of get a hold of myself and either he would do or say something or I'd look at the bed and start all over. Among his comments...'She won't get up here. Heck, I need a ladder'...(as he's laying on it) 'It would be OK, just don't sit up or you'll get nailed by the ceiling fan.'

That is just a bit too much visual in the TMI area....

You were right!  You wouldn't have to worry about Gretchen getting up there!! HA!

Handle every "Situation" like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
tinkle on it and walk away.

Lol!  Well, I can definitely attest to the comfort of that bed!  Thanks again for giving me hospitality when Brekke and Sorcha and I came through Texas to get baby Mocha for Auntie Brenda!    Ceiling fan - right!    :2funny:

Roberta, I hadn't laughed so much in a long time. By frill, do you mean the bed skirt? There's one there, but you don't really see it for the mattresses. My original plan was to put a second one between the mattresses, but...I didn't get that far.  Ron said it was worth hauling that heavy mattress back and forth to see me laugh so hard. I now feel the need to post a finished version of the bed so you guys don't think I've totally lost it. I will, soon.

And Julia, you are welcome anytime. I'm glad it was comfortable for you.

DD, I kinda like the trampoline idea! A little aerobic jumping before bed! LOL! I bet Ron would learn to go to bed AFTER me, real quick!

Do a "Greg Louganis" - balance on the metal footboard, bend at the knees and do a front one and a quarter tuck dive!  A pike would probably cost you your Achilles tendons getting sliced by the fan, so go for the tuck!   :happy6:

Degree of difficulty 2.8 times execution:  SHE'S GONE FOR THE GOLD MEDAL!!!!!!!!!!!!! :sunny:

Karen, I love Far Side.  Years ago I was in Colorado on vacation and there was a Far Side exhibit at the Denver Museum of History.  Every panel published to that point was there.  People would be reading along the walls and suddenly starting screaming and we'd all look to remember where that spot was.  My fav is the little wiener dog make espresso as the sun is coming up "what little hyper dogs do while their masters sleep".

My husband says he can pick out a Far Side fan within a few seconds of being around them. He is usually pretty accurate. What is interesting is when he first started getting all the Gary Larson books, I would look at them and I thought they were okay, but nowhere near as hilarious as Randy did. Now, I find I laugh just about as much. The Wiener Dog Art is still my favorite, though (and we had the book before we had the wiener dog!).

OMG, I forgot about Wiener Dog Art!!  Oh, and I find cows hysterically funny.  So the meadow martini party was what first got me hooked on FS.
