I got the following e-mail from Patty - she is still hurting and needing our support.  Please send rays and prayers Alaska way - I sure hope they are able to figure out what is going on !

I am still out of work due to my disc problem, its been almost 4 weeks now.  I am scheduled to have an MRI tomorrow which should show exactly what is wrong and give us an idea on how to proceed.  Just wanted to touch base and let you know I was still alive.  Can't type for very long on the computer.

I've been thinking about Patty.  I hate to hear that this is still giving her pain.  Hopefully the MRI will be able to show what is going on and they can help her.  Poor girl....
Thanks for letting us know Barb.  Please keep us posted if you hear anything more.

The MRI will most likely show exactly the problem and what can be done much better nowdays it is hard to get though when you have problems taking pain medications.Sending Rays good thoughts and lite hugs do not want to hurt your neck.

Many Many Prayers and Comforting Hugs to Patty.  Praying the MRI will show something that can be fixed without surgery.  So sorry to hear she is still in pain.  Good luck Patty from all of us!!!

The MRI will definitely let them know what is wrong. Like papbouv, we found out with mine that the discs had degenerated (way ahead of time due to the whiplash from the accident) and were putting pressure on the nerves, causing the arm pain and weakeness. I'm still getting by the physical therapy, but I know that surgery is in the future. If I weren't being stubborn, I would do it now, but because I work with my hands all the time, even the 98% chance of them being better than they are now hasn't convinced me yet. It is a career thing for me.
The good news is that now the surgery is really simplified (no neck brace in some cases-depending on the surgeon) and is really quite successful. The pain is gone immediately and those with tingling or numbness have the feeling returned within a very short period of time, if not immediately. Even with me working in a position that keeps me looking down most of the time, my time out of work would only be 3-4 weeks. I have a feeling that with Patty's case sounding pretty severe, this may be the solution for her, especially since she has tried other things for 4 weeks already. If it is, she can be assured that she will feel much better once it is over. I keep meeting people who have had this surgery within the last year (could be there's a reason for that) and they all tell me they wish they had done it much earlier. Maybe after we get moved, I'll take their advice.

Thanks for the update, Barb. I hope they get a good plan of care in place after the MRI results.

I sure hope that MRI tells you something and tells the docs what THEY can do to help.  (((HUGS))))...gentle ones...to you.

Cross continental rays from Virginia!  Hope the MRI is the worst that Patty will have to experience (I don't like em' as I get a bit claustrophobic).  Will be thinking of her.  Kevin & Jeri

Rays from the City of the Big Shoulders (or at least in the near vicinity...).

Clifford says:  Aunt Patty, just lie really still and listen to some nice quiet and pretty music like Marilyn Manson or Quiet Riot.

Quiet Riot???  Sounds real soothing...

Thanks for all the well-wishes you guys!  Hearing what you said about MRIs gave me a lot of hope that it will show exactly what my problem is.  I will let you know what the doc says.  I really miss you guys.  Thanks for being there for me.

Yep, it'll force you to get well in order to go across the room to turn it off.

I believe it, reminds of another group that I never listened to -- Twisted Sister.  How do they come up with these names????  I guess I am just on the other side of the generation gap.
