I feed Chilie hard food, and it is the Solid Gold Mmillennia formula.  She's never had a problem with it.  However, when we moved back in May, the closest pet store that carries it didn't carry the small bag.  So, I went ahead and bought the huge bag (don't know how big, but the price is $27.00).  Anyway, I suspect that the food is now what is making Chilie sick.  She has been great over the holiday and the weekend while I've been giving her rice and hamburger.  Yesterday I decided to mix a little bit of her food in with the rice and chicken broth.  Well, later on in the day she threw up again.  It was the rice and dog food.  I've thrown the remainder of the dog food out.  I have found a pet store close by that does sell the small bag.  Should I buy a new bag and see how Chilie does with that?  I have also thought about switching her over to the Hundenflocken, but since her tummy is all out of whack right now, I don't think that would be a good idea.

Perhaps trying a fresh bag of the Mmillennium??? :dontknow:

Thanks for your help!

I do know that food can go bad - even the dry food. Mr Tucker had issues with is stomach and we finally realized that it was the food. We bought a new bag and were good to go. I would just buy a small bag of her normal food to try...  :2cents:

I would say that could very well be the problem.  If you have to buy the big bag - I would keep the excess in the freezer (if possible)! I buy the hundenflocken and won't buy the big - will hunt until I find the small.  Sure hope that is it !

It can definitely go bad. I use the little 2.2 lb bags and still usually throw out the last bit just to be safe. I also store it now in one of these http://www.arcatapet.com/item.cfm?cat=7471. I would do the same thing if I were you, try a fresh bag and if she still gets sick on that you'll know it wasn't from the other bag being bad. Just like in an elimination diet, keep it to one change at a time so if she gets better, you will know for sure what change made the difference.

Anything with oils in it can definately spoil.
Put half in the freezer (Dee, Dee, that's the part over the fridge where the ice cube trays are).

The  Fridge is usually the large and white door like structure in the kitchen, ask Haillie she will know what to look for.

.
My pair must have stomachs like cast iron, we use HIlls R/D and I buy the 15kilo bag and it does about 5 months. I'd never use it out of date.
Amy here anyone mention FOOD.

I agree.  It definately sounds like it could be her food.  I would go ahead and try and new bag and see how she reacts.  Also, smell it and see if it smells different than you remember.  I smell Porky's every day before putting the scoop into his bowl. If it smells different at all, I throw it out and go buy a new bag. The freezer idea works really well!  Hope you found the problem and that she starts feeling better again.

Funny you should mention this.  We have just come to the conclusion that this was Maddie's problem with the gacky tummy......spoiled kibble.  I guess the best thing is to buy in little bags and don't let it get damp.  We have a container with a tight fitting lid that we use but still if there's a ton of food, I guess it can still go bad.  Hope all those puppers with urpy tum tums are feeling better.

Both dog and cat food can ecome rancid.  Hector Hening the cat was eating food that was being kept by my mother in a box in the garage and the entie bottom of the box was oily looking.  The vet said throw it out.

This, of course, is for animals who will gladly eat a two-week-old squirrel carcass from the alley, so why we are obsessing is because it's what we do, not because the doggies much care!

Mine just doesn't last long enough to get rancid. lol.  My two doggies must be piggies. Seriously I just buy the small bag and it only lasts about1-2  weeks at the most. But I had just recently thought about going up to a bigger bag. Guess I will stick with what I have been doing. Thanks for the heads up.

I get the huge bag for the quad and keep it in an airtight container similar but larger to the one that Dee uses.  That seems to keep it nice and fresh but of course, we go through that amount in a relatively short time frame.
I'm still laughing about DeeDee wandering the house looking for the fridge......  Not a kitchen girl Dee?

Terri, the story I've read said that when Dee Dee cooks, Hallie hides!

It's true! When I turn on the oven, she will run outside and shake and not come in. Regardless of what it looks like....I am sure it's not her fearing my cooking. I think what happens is there is just enough smoke of some kind that happens that I can't smell but she can, she is terrified of smoke and I don't know why, if something happened concerning smoke before I got her or if she just happens to be afraid of it (she also avoids people who smoke even though she normally runs right up to everyone wagging her tail). So even though I get teased by my friends that Hallie is afraid of my cooking ...I think it's the stove! LOL! She has not done this the last couple of times I've turned the oven on so whatever it was must have burned itself out (is oven and stove the same thing???)
