It looks like we are right in the path of Hurrican Rita.  I will have to decide in the next few days whether it will be safe to stay and ride it out or to pack up the fur babies and leave.  I am in a very safe area and my neighborhood did not flood during Allison, so I will have to watch and play it by ear for a few days.  I will do whatever I have to do to make sure my babies are ok.  Send us some rays for a safe week, please!

Nikki, you have to leave and leave soon!  Don't even think about staying!  I've ridden out several hurricanes in the Outter Banks of North Carolina, they are not fun and can be deadly!  My ex's family is from there, Manteo!  We have a place on Hatteras Island in Buxton near Hatteras lighthouse!  Ophileia just brushed by there and it was a cat 1.  Our place is on stilts and the ocean came up under the house, in just a cat 1.   Last year we were there, Hurricane Alex, was a tropical storm Monday night, a cat 2 hurricane by morning, it never made landfall, but the ocean washed over into the sound and Hatteras and Orkacoke Island were under several feet of water.  We drove accross Orgen Sound in 85 mile an hour headwinds.  We were the last car allowed to cross!  Nags Head took a punch too, that is where we stayed!  My relatives just left my house to go back to the Outter Banks after Hurricane Ophileia!
In 1963 my ex's family were on the front page of National papers, sitting on their roof, waiting to be rescued, in a no name noreasterner!
It isn't a game, the storms seem to be getting worse......Please don't tempt fate, leave, that is the only way to be safe.  Rita looks like it is going to grow into another monster storm!
Take the family and puppers and get inland to high ground!  If you need help, just ask!  I am too far away in Maryland to come get you, but if you can get here or need help getting here you can stay with me and/or I have rental property (waterfront) lol, and manage properties, I have a few vacant, pick one!  It is yours as long as you need it!  Just leave and be safe!  Puppers are welcome too!
I am going to pm you my phone numbers, if your place has issues, call me....I will help!  Good luck and please get to a safe place!  Dottie

I talked to Nikki this morning and she is leaving tomorrow morning and heading this way.  We also have a glass plant in Houston and they are shutting down tomorrow and Friday.  They say it is getting pretty hairy - running out of gas, people shoving people out of the way to buy water, plywood scarce and with Galveston being evacuated as we speak - all of that traffic heading to Houston.  What a mess !!!!   I am sure Nikki  will have a tough time getting out of Houston.   Last check to the weather channel showed 150 mile an hour winds.....ACK !    We have one other poster in that area - I sent her a PM this morning, but haven't heard anything - she posts under Janetleej.  Cool to have a map so we can check !
