Hi! My name is Kim and i am the proud parent of a male Doxie named Max. He just turned 4 in April. We also had a female Airdale terrior that we lost last week of old age. (she was 13). I have the oportunity to adopt a new female Doxie that is 12 weeks old. My husband is concerned with bringing the new baby home and Max not wanting her there? I think that there will be some adjusting time for both of them but i think ultimatley they will get along fine. That is why i am turning to all you Doxie fans out there because i am sure some of you if not most of you have a least 2 of them!lol I welcome all and any input. I am going to meet her tomorrow afternoon.
Thanks!
Kim

Hi and Welcome!! You have come to the right place for advice. There are so many great members here that can shed some light on getting another furbaby. We only have one - Penny a 4 year old female red smooth. We were actually considering getting her a sister/brother but decided against it. She has had some medical problems coupled with the fact that she is not a fan of other dogs and we thought it was best not to get another. I know there are a lot of people of the board that have had great success in adding another puppy! Good Luck!!

P.S. - Sorry the site is so slow (it normally is pretty quick). We are working on getting that fixed.

Hi, Kim, hubby, and Max! :hello2:  It is weinerful that you want to add another dachsie to your pack!  At one time I had 4 girls - ages 14, 9, 6, and 2.  Introduce them on neutral ground- like someone else's yard, for example.  It would be good, depending on the distance, if Max's smell on a towel or tee shirt could be introduced to the puppy, and her smell on a towel or tee shirt be introduced to him.  Many people say you can't have 2 or more females in the same pack, but I had no problems.  I was raised with a dachshund from the age of 2 (me), and they are the only breed I have ever had.  Brekke is almost six, and right now she is an only dog, because we have not found our next pupper yet.  Make sure the puppy is crated whenever you or your hubby cannot supervise the two - just to be sure Max isn't too rough with her.   Good luck with your new addition, and welcome to the board!

Welcome to you all....   I have a little girl ~ EmmyLou ~ 9 months old, red smooth....  I also have a 2 yr. old female cokcer spaniel and her son who will be 1 on Sat., and they even did very well with the new puppy, when we got her....  I am sure you will enjoy it here...  I Love It!!!!   I practically live on Weiner Writings...  lol   It's like an extended family....  I am also sure that you will have fun with a new baby in the house...   I was taught and trained all over again when we got our Emmy....  She definately has the run of the house....  lol  We got her almost 2 months after I lost my 6 yr. old male, red smooth....  So, getting another Doxie puppy was definately a learning experience all over again....  But, it has been fun....  Welcome again to you all....  Glad to have you aboard.....

EmmyLou here:  Woohoo, yet one more baby puppy....  And a big brudder too.....   :headbang:  :headbang:   YEAHHHHH!!!!!   We's sure gettin lots of new puppies on here lately, and I LUB IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    :thumb:     :angel4:

When we brought Zena (8 weeks) into our home.  Zack (12 yrs) met her at Sue's house and then they were in crates by each other in the car (looking at each other).  The first few weeks we kept her in an ex-pen and let him check her out from the outside ...once he seemed to have settled down we put them down and let them check each other out in little doses.  He would be fine and then he would get tired of her bugging him and his growl would change. Time to separate them he has had enough.  Now they are generally buddys but once in a while he will tell her he has had enough of her crap.  Then she usually comes running to me and jumps against my leg like "Mom he's going to kill me :angel12:"   and I tell her "yes he will if you don't stop bugging him" .
Once in a while they have gotten into squabbles but that is another story!!!!

Thank you so  much for all the feedback! This precious little girl also has a story behind her also. I spoke with the breeder and she (the baby-12 weeks old) was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I guess two of the adult mommies got into a scuffle and (Roxy) was walking by and one of the mommies bit her on the neck. Well, it turns out that when she bit her, it put a hole in her trachea so she has been in recovery from that. She will go back to vet this week to see if the hole is closing on its own and if it isn't they will do surgery to close it. The breeder seems to think it is healing good because she has been eating better this week. I am going to meet her today and she should get the vets report by friday. I guess i am a little nervous with bringing her home because of what happend to her. I don't want Max to possibly bite her again and traumatize her again. The breeder said she wants her to go to a home where there is another dog because she is so used to being around other Doxies that she would be lonly if not. I will see how the visit goes today and see what the vet has to say.
Thanks!
Kim
