My folks are here for the summer from Yuma, AZ, they spend their summers at the family cabin in Willow, AK.  My sister Joan and brother-in-law Butch are here from Juneau, AK.  This Friday we're all driving down to Homer, AK to visit my sister Carol (Joan's twin).  My niece Dorothy (Joan's kid) lives in Homer also with her boyfriend Kelly, in a neat little house they built themselves.  The really neat part about this weekend is that I will be getting together with an old friend from high school.  I've been out of high school since 1973 and the last time I saw my friend Phil was 25 years ago.  He is now a grandpa to two youngsters.  I cannot wait to see him, we had so many crazy times together.

I'm in charge of Friday night dinner which will be Baked Ziti, garlic bread and salad.  My mom is in charge of desserts all weekend.  Saturday is Cinco de Mayo so we will have a Mexican dinner Saturday night -- tacos, chili rellanso, halibut ceviche, corn and cheese soft tacos, mexican rice, etc........This is the meal that my friend Phil and his wife Tammy will join us at.

On Sunday we will go over to Dorothy and Kellys house and have a hot dog roast.  Of course, on Saturday and Sunday we will all go out to Homer Spit and walk on the beach, collecting agates and sea shells, to work up an appetite.  We'll also visit the original Alaska Wildberry Products store and buy their wonderful chocolates and I especially want to take a look at the t-shirts they have for sale.

We'll drive home on Monday.  If any of you ever visit Alaska, a trip to Homer is a must.  Its a seaside town and typical of those found in Maine and Oregon.  A really cool place.  Its very busy with tourists all summer and offers great halibut fishing charters.  The off-season, when all the businesses are shut down out on the Spit, you photographers will go nuts taking pictures of the many, many bald eagles that congregate down there.  Its an incredible sight!  This meeting of the eagles happens in January and February.

This Homer trip is an annual thing for us, it sort of kicks off the summer.  Dan will not be joining us, he has to work and will stay home with Willy and Alex.  Dan and I are in the process of getting the road built into our 40 acres and subdividing the property into four 10-acre lots.  All this work should be done by July and the lots up for sale.  There will be a couple of new homes going up around our property, and we are looking forward to meeting the new neighbors.  It will be a busy summer.

I sure wish I could take Willy and Alex with me, I need those boys around me more than ever lately, it seems.  But with all the visiting and other dogs, and being in other people's houses, its best if they just stay home with Dan.
Our road and subdividing project is keeping us very preoccupied these days.  Misty is greatly missed though.
