Hey everyone i couldn't believe it when i saw Porky last night. His whole body was covered in lumps!!!  I was freaking out!!!   We know it was nothing he ate unless he has developed a new allergy to something.  I'm wondering if it was because he ate an unidentified bug shortly before i went to work.   All I know it was terrifying.  I called the vet at home and he told me to give Porky some baby benedryl and call in one hour if the hives didn't clear up.  Well, luckilly they did.  Porky slept really really well last night and seems to be fine today.  But, he sre gave me a scare.  I'm really wondering what caused such a bad reaction. Any ideas?  :thinik:    He was in his crate the whole time we were gone (about 4 hours)  so I know he didn't eat aything while i was gone.  Hopefully this will be the last excitement of the weekend.   :doah:

Poor Porky !  His skin sounds really sensitive - is there anything in his crate that may have irritated it?

My bet is on the unidentified bug. Hope he is better this morning.

short of putting a muzzle on him so he doesn't eat anything unidentified, I dunno WHAT to tell ya.  BUT hives are serious and can block the airway.  It is a true medical emergency if he looks like he not breathing.  I know.  Been there, done that, got the ER bracelet to prove it.

You might consider asking the vet if they use Eppy Pens on dogs in case the Hives were to close his airway in the future might have one on hand in case the Benedryl  does not work???

Having been covered head to toe in hives myself I know they are terribly inconvenient.  I was miserable so I can imagine how much worse it would be if I had fur covering them!  Poor baby!  Poor Momma!  I hope everything settles down now and the hives are gone for good!
