When the vaccum cleaner thread was started, I happened to be looking and considering a Dyson. You guys talked me into getting one. If it continues to work like it has, I'm in love! We replaced our carpets about 3 years ago and they were looking like we needed to have them cleaned already. We had put middle quality carpet and padding in so I wasn't expecting them to look so bad, so quick. Welll.....I've run the Dyson twice now, and it honestly looks like new carpet again. Even the high traffic areas, that were starting to look darker, look clean and new. The whole house seems cleaner. Both times I've run it, I've had to empty the canister a few times but I'm thinking it's because I never got the initial 'fuzz' out of the carpet when it was new. Just thought I'd put my two cents in for those that haven't decided yet. Thanks to those that responded to that thread.

What is the model number on the one you got? I am still debating  :verdict:

DC 17? I know the number is 17, not sure about the letters. I noticed there are 2 animals. One is the DC (?) 14, the other 17. I think the only difference is the 14 is the ball, which makes it easier to get into some places. I opted for the 17 because it doesn't have as much purple on it. Trivial, I know, but the maneuverability of the 17 was good enough for me.

Kari

Thanks! I'll check them out. Did you get it locally or order it online?

I just went to their site and I was wrong. I guess I tried a few and got confused. The 14 does not have the ball. The main difference is the technology - cyclone versus turbo, or something like that. The 14 also has large debris pick up. That might be something to consider. It says the 17 doesn't have the airflow attachments, which means you can clean curtains without them being sucked up, for example, but mine does. All it is, is a hole on the side of the attachment. It shows a carpet attachment with a side hole, I don't know if I have that. I don't remember seeing it.

I got it at Sears.

I was the one who started the vacuum thread and am finally ready to buy. I had sworn I wouldn't go bagless this time, but have now been convinced to buy a Dyson.
I've done lots of research and this is what I've learned about the difference between the DC14 and the DC17
The DC14 has the cyclone action that Dyson is known for, however the DC17 has a triple cyclone action that removes more air from the dust/dirt causing it to be more compact when it goes into the canister. The DC17 also is motor driven making it feel like it is self propelled, even though it is not. At Sears they have the DC17 Complete which includes the low floor tool for hardwoods and to get under low furniture, etc and also the soft brush for lamps, etc. I think it also includes their cleaning granules.

I have found an online coupon that can be used at Linen's n Things for 20% off which will bring the price of the DC17 down to around 439 or so. I think it will be with free shipping or you can pick it up at a store in your area and not be charged shipping. You can also get a refurbed DC17 on amazon.com for around 415. I was going to get a refurbed DC14 for around 329, but am now rethinking that decision if I can get the 20% off the DC17 since it comes with a 5 year warranty. As you can tell, lots of research has been done here!!!
I do have one question. Randy is really bad at picking up pennies or small things if they are on the floor when he is vacuuming. I'm wondering if they will get stuck where the cyclones are in the Dyson causing him/ME to constantly have to get them out? If so, I guess I'll have to see just how hard it is going to be to retrain HIM to pick up little objects before vacuuming!

I'll post the link for the coupon when I get on my laptop after while.

So what is the difference between the DC17 and the DC17 Animal? Or is there one?

They are the same, or at least the ones I've seen are. I've also noticed there is a DC14 Drive which has attachments to use for cleaning the inside of a car. But the Animal is the best for pet hair and has the best suction.
Here is the link with the info about ordering from Linen's N Things. It has the coupon code on there and it has just been updated this week. On the Linen's N Things website it states that shipping is free on orders over 50.00. If you got the ad from Linen's n things in the Sunday paper this week, you can also use the coupon on the back and buy the vacuum in the store if it is in stock. I had thought of doing that, but our store was out of them.

I have the Animal DC 15 with the ball I love it works great have new carpet so wanted something that would help keep the carpet looking new. The only thing is I need to contact Dyson ask if they have an extention for the wand that they have hurts my back ( have back problems anyway) I'm 5' 6" or use to be and the wand part seems short to me. Mine came with all kinds of attachments all work great the best thing is you can clean hair out of the beater bar very easily.

I finally made a decision and ordered the DC-14 Animal from Amazon. I was able to get the Factory reconditioned one for 339 with free shipping. After comparing everything and reading the reviews on the reconditioned ones from Amazon, I just couldn't convince myself to pay the difference in price. Hopefully it will arrive sometime next week and I'll give a full report on it!!!

I bought a dyson too a few months back and i experienced the same thing when i began to vacuum. I pulled more dirt and dog hair out of the carpet. It was amazing to me. My carpet is about 7 years old but looked like it needed replacing but after the dyson, it is looking much better now. I am so pleased.
I also find it easy to use with all the attachments.

Please refer back to my original Cesar Millan post.  The Herd spends 23 hours and 50 per day asleep on the bed.  The remaining 10 minutes are divided as follows:

four minutes - eating
two minutes - potty break
two minutes - potty break
two minutes - potty break

Their feet never touch the floor long enough to get cool, let alone cold!
