Stormy needs rays

Stormy will be 14 in March so he is reaching that age when you wonder what will go wrong and when. For the last week he has been doing the "reverse sneeze" type noise quit a bit as if trying to clear something from his nose. Monday I got him to the vet and as he has a history of bad teeth she found a fistula (opening) where they had extracted a canine 3 years ago and another tooth she thought was abscessed. So we agreed that these things should be attended to and an x-ray would be taken as well to see if anything was going wrong with his sinuses. He had his dental today and the vet called me to inform me that although she saw nothing on the x-ray when she extracted the supposedly abscessed tooth there was a swelling there that evidently made the tooth loose. She said it had changed since she saw it Monday. So before she wakes him up she is going to take a biopsy and send it to the University of Iowa (a great veterinary school and resource). It will take about a week before we know anything.

That is all we know but it is certainly enough to be scary - a growth that has changed visibly in appearance in two days. That's enough to be very scary. My heart is in my mouth right now. We're going to pick him up after work tonight and bring him home. I could include a lot about how much we love this guy and how my world has suddenly become filled with uncertainty, but so many of you have been through things very like this you know the feeling. Its a price we pay for their companionship. So please send some prayers and rays toward Iowa and our big boy - whatever happens there are going to be some tough times ahead - the best we can hope for is that this is benign.

Oh no - rays on the way in full force for our Stormy. We will all be praying that the growth is benign. Oh too well, many of us know the feeling - the uncertainty, the guessing, the what ifs.........SO SO scary. Please keep us posted and give our big cuddly boy Stormy a soft rub from me. Oh, Rich! I will be thinking of you guys. This is definitely the worst part of sharing our lives with them, but it is worth the time we have with them. Sending rays and praying for good news.
