Zora here:   Dad declared that I am pretty much at my proper weight now and he is ready to loosen up on the diet restrictions for me.   Oh happy day!   I get to have treats again, and maybe if I beg and beg enough, Dad will toss me some hooman food.

Dad here:  When we got Zora, she had porked herself up at the boarders.  As a matter of fact, her and Zeke were within less than a half pound of each other.  If you saw the physical size difference, you'd realize that for Zora to be the same weight she had to be quite the piggy.  We cut her food ration from 1/2 cup to 1/3 cup, virtually eliminated all treats and absolutely eliminated any hooman food (except for the stuff tossed "overboard" by Jessica, of course!).   The result was an average weight loss of a half-pound per month.   So, now she is about two pounds lighter (15 pounds to 13 pounds) and looks great.   I think she could still stand to lose another half-pound to a pound, but we can take our time getting that last bit of weight off.  With warmer weather coming in a couple of months, the puppers will start shedding some of their winter fat due to increased exercise.

On the other end of the spectrum, Zeke was definitely on the skinny side.   I don't want to go overboard correcting his weight, but we have been giving him heaping 1/2 cup portions.   His weight is up to about 16 pounds now.   I could probably get him up to 17 pounds and still not have to worry about him becoming obese, but I'd rather err on keeping him on the light side.

Leslie Ingram of Almost Home Dachshund Rescue Society recommended the string bean diet for Roscoe, a 24-lb tweenie I was adopting.  He got a half cup dog food and a half cup string beans.  He felt full, he lost weight and now he looks great!
"I tried marriage and children - it ended badly.
I'm doing much better with dachshunds and rabbits."
