Buelah has been acting a bit aggressive toward Beatrice of late.  Buelah is the alpha in the pack and I expected that she would let Beatrice know that much the same way she lets the boys know.  At first that seemed to be the case.  She pretty much ignored Beatrice unless she was trying to take something that belonged to her and then she would just push her away with her nose and roll her around a bit.  In the last week I have noticed her being a little bit aggressive for no reason.  She will just come up to Beatrice and start growling and nipping at her.  This makes Toby mad and then he gets involved in the nonsense with the nipping and growling (well as much as he can with no canines). Of course, Oscy can't pass up the opportunity to join in!  Next thing you know it's just a big pile of growling dachsies that I have to seperate.  Could this be because Beatrice is getting a little bigger?   I have made a point of spending extra time alone with Buelah since Beatrice arrived because she is a big mommy's girl and I didn't want her to feel left out.  She also gets really angry when I hold Beatrice.  She will try to pull her out of my lap.  Obviously, I don't allow her to do it, it's just behavior that she has never exhibited before and that worries me.  If anyone has any ideas on how to deal with this I would appreciate the input!

That is a bothersome deal. I don't have any idea except that they are both females. My Mimi gets moody at Tuttle one minute then rolls on her back so he can lick her tummy and then go back and nip at him. I feel for you though, 4 of them going at it. Very nerve racking. I wish I could help with some suggestions. Did you ask you vet about it?

I am a better person because I have my Mimi and Tuttle and now Carson!!!

I haven't had much experience with this type thing, but I would guess that since Beatrice IS getting older and bigger that Buelah is feeling threatened.  Now is the time for you to jump in and remind all of them YOU are the pack leader and Beulah's behavior is not acceptable.   The girls in time will work it out - but they both need to know that the agression for no reason has to stop.  Wow - I don't envy you a bit !!!  Four youngsters that are all watching out for one of the others !!!!  Google - sibling rivalry in dogs, or something of that sort and I am sure you will find other advice.

I am sure more of our posters will have some good info and experiences too !!!!

Let us know how it goes !

I was thinking it could be the female thing, also. I'm also wondering if when female pups reach a certain age, do they start putting off a different scent, or is it there from the beginning? Since you are planning to have her spayed soon, it may make a difference. Might be interesting to find out about. I'm with the others-Google it! Also, definitely remind them you are in control. I love it the Toby takes up for her so quickly. They reaaly are best buds.

Theresa..... Yes, we are planning on having her spayed next month and maybe that will make a difference.  I sure hope so!  I also agree with Barb that I have to let them know who is in charge.  It's always been easy with the two boys.....this is just a new experience for me with the girlies! Guess it's time to put my foot down with the little monsters!
Toby is really protective of Beatrice.  It's been a lot of fun to watch him start playing like the pup he was never allowed to be in his past life.  The interaction between the two of them is quite a thing to see!  She is definately HIS baby girl!  Of course, that is not the best thing in the world given the current situation with Miss Buelah!  He simply won't have any part of THAT!
I'm going to read up on sibling rivalry in dogs and see how they are over the weekend.  Thanks for the words of advice!

Willy and Alex have been having some sibling rivalry lately, too.  Willy has always been kind of a bully and Alex has always been gentle.  But lately, Alex has had enough of Willy's BS and he is really standing up for himself.  Its funny in a way because Willy can't stare Alex down anymore, Alex will just stare back, unblinking.  Then the next thing you know they are cuddled up together sleeping.

I don't have much experience with females but I think the spaying will help.

I think anything with 3 dogs is a pack situation so you might Google pack of dogs too gee here in Tulsa you can only have 3 dogs over 6 months old if you have more than 3 you have to buy some kind of breeders license???All must be spay or neutered too.
