Does anyone know anything about these 2 items and treatment??  We are also a addison's dog.  We get a shot every 3 weeks.  i am afraid we are in for a bad haul.  Any input would be appreciated!!  Thanks from me and big kisses from Zelda

I would do a computer search on the subject.

Zeke had a couple of recent bouts with pancreatitis.   The pancreatitis part is very curable.   After an initial hospitalization where they withheld food and water (Zeke got fluids subcutaneously), they reintroduced water first, and then food later.   Upon his release, they put Zeke on a combination of Cimetidine Elixir (dosage 0.7 mL twice a day for six days), Reglan 1/4 tablet (10 mg tablets) twice a day, and the Science Diet I/D canned food.   He's happy and healthy now.

It sounds like Zelda has some other complications with the loss of liver mass and the Addisions, so I don't know how that would affect her recovery from the pancreatitis.   Sending rays Zelda's way from my own set of Zs.

Having fairwelled to the bridge last year of Emma at the age of 17 who survived to bad bouts of pancreatisis, and diabetes for 8 years, Pancreatitis (P) is livable. Sounds as if the P could be from the liver problem, FAT is the naughty word with P, that was part of the reason we had to change to Hills R/d . The

The pancreatitis will require a very low fat diet at least during flare ups.  It's the fat that irritates the pancreas so keeping the intake to a minimum will help with that.  Medications may be needed if it's severe or during acute episodes but I would think they wouldn't be required everyday (although I'm not a vet).  I'm really  not sure about the loss of liver mass and the Addison's.  Are those two related?  (I really know nothing about Addison's to be honest, so please bear with me.)  If I remember correctly, a diet high in fat can hurt your liver, and I'm thinking that it could result in less dense liver tissue.  Let me check on that and hopefully I'll be able to find a few links for you.

Hi, i am new. My name is Robbie, mom slave to 5 basset hounds, 1 mini doxie, and one mixed rottie.
I thought i would respond here since my vet has seen alot of this since thanksgiving and especially the day after thanksgiving and the day after Christmas. From what i have learned this is caused mostly by our pets eating fatty foods from the turkeys and hams we cook for our holiday meals. I personally dont give my pets any people food at all other than an ocassional piece of bread.
A few weeks ago, Willie, my mini doxie was sick late one saturday night and all day on sunday but was drinking so when i took him to the vet, the first question she asked was if i had given him any people food or had he gotten into the garbage, all of which i said NO.
As to the liver mass question, i have no idea. That is definately a question for your vet person.
