Zuzu ate half a bar of soap!!!

But she's okay!  Turns out bar soap is 80% animal fat and 20% coconut or other vegetable oil.

When I came home I thought I smelled a chemical smell in the house. (Yeah I know, "soap" is an "alien" smell, ha ha.)  I discovered the soap in their bed and since I didn't know WHICH dog ate it, I offered it to both.  Zuzu was decidely interested in it.  Loki was not (WHAT THE?!??! )

Of course the vet reccommended calling poison control  but this is a pricey service and Zuzu was displaying NO SYMPTOMS of poisoning whatsoever. so I called

Someone on the board reccommended this service and I had written the number on my doggie first aid kit.

I spoke with a very nice vet and he said not to worry; the perfumes, dyes and other additives are in insuffiecient qusntities to poison a dawg--even a little weiner. Liquid soap, he said, is more dangerous.

BUT!!!!  HERE IS THE MORAL OF THIS STORY!  This was a bar of generic beauty bar soap that I had purchased at Costco.  Each bar was packaged in an indivdual box WITH NO INGREDIENT OR MANUFACTURER'S NAME ON IT.   If this had been  an actual emergency I would not have been able to tell the vet WHAT she had ingested. SO SAVE THE BLOODY WRAPPERS on these bulk items--Ya just never know.

p.s. the little turkey doesn't even have diarrhea.

GEEEEZ Loki!!!! That is not a good way to get Mom's heart rate up! (I would have freaked too Les, good thinking on who to call!) Good grief what was the little girl thinking?? She must have cussed and decided to punish herself! I have a friend who had a doberman who loved soap they would have to keep the bathroom door shut, he would just wait for his chance to rush in there and grab the bar of soap....he'd eat the whole thing if they had let him. He never got sick from it either, so Loki sounds like you skated through this one. Mom, keep your eye out for kibble flavored bubbles floating around the house!

Still, I am happy that DH is home tommorrow 'cause the heater inspector is coming.  He can watch her.

Good to know the liquid soap is dangerous.

HA Les, I knewi t was Zuzu but Loki just came out of my fingers! Poor girl, I am so used to her being the topic of mischievious doxie it was habit. :)

Glad to hear that Zuzu is ok.  I would have been quite worried too if Chilie had done something like that.  Roberta, that's too funny about Zuzu being clean inside and out!  I'd watch for her to start farting bubbles.

I posted that number on the board when Porky got the moth bar.  They were the only ones that helped me.  They are so helpful at the toxicology center.  I can't belive she would eat soap!!  YUCK!!!   Silly ZuZU!   
I'm glad she'll be okay though.   That would have been scary.   

Porky here:  ZuZu, you and I need to help each ofer member to onwy eat what our momma gibs us to eat.  I twied to eat dat moth bar dis summer and all it got me was a BAD tummy ache and a twip to da vet, you do not want dat!  Dey shove a tube in your mouf and den put all dis black stuff down your froat.  And dat is no fun!!   You are lucky dough, you picked somefing dat wasn't so bad for you.  I bet it tasted icky dough.  YEESH!   No more eating da soap.

My first doxie, Christopher, ate a cube of butter once.  The next morning he was green.     He drank and drank and drank water, then threw it all up all over the kitchen floor (just water.)  He vegged out the rest of the day, and was fine by the next day.  Let us know if Zuzu starts blowing bubbles!
