Looie could really use some doxie rays.  He had two trips yesterday to the vet for what has turned out so far to be a major tummy ache but what a "ride" we had.  Yesterday he wasn't feeling real good -- about 7:00 pm, he started to cry due as he laid a certain way.  I called our vet's office and by 7:15 pm, we were in the waiting room to have him checked.  The Dr felt his tummy, took his temp, and said it appeared that he had a tummy ache -- gave him a shot (which he yelped at when the needle went in) and said that would help his tummy calm down along with some pills to take the next few days, starting with a half a tablet an hour after the shot had been given.  Home we went by 8:15 pm.  Everything seemed normal, he rested, went outside, did his business, and then around 10:30, he went to bed with me..he took the half a pill.  We are laying in bed and I looked down at and he started blinking his eyes real fast and then started to have what you would describe as a seizure (never had one like this before) with crying (yelping). We calmed him, talked him through it, his had no control over his bodily functions -- peeing -- we just kept talking to him and soothing him with petting....Sarge is frantic trying to figure out how to help his brother.....it lasted about a minute.  You could tell he was embarrassed - and kept looking at us like "when do I get in trouble for peeing" which was the farthest thing from my mind.  That is always cleanable and not a problem in my book.  Got him calmed down and I called the Pet Emergency Clinic and they said bring him in.  So off we went at 11:00 pm, to the clinic.  He had no more seizures -- he did cry in pain, just as we arrived, but no seizure.  We were there until 1:00 a.m. -- They did full xrays and full blood work up, watched him for a while.  The xray came back "clean" -- no blockages and all looked normal -- you could even see the pill still laying in his tummy (that he took earlier).  The vet said that his intestines had a bit of fluid and that he would be having a bit of diarrehea but all was normal including his back. The blood work for liver, heart, etc., all came back normal.  So at 1:00 am, we are heading back home.  The vet indicated that the cause of the seizure is unknown -- that he could have had a reaction to the pills (which seizures is identified as a allergic reaction). Looie also has no tolerance level for pain. Said to watch him -- if he had another call, or if he stops drinking water or vomiting, call. Told us to not give anymore pills.

So, we're home (transporting Looie was via my big laundry basket--which he snuggled in with lots of blankets.  Once home, he and Sarge were outside, did their business and into the house we went.  Looie wanted back in the laundry basket, so he slept there, Sarge on his bed next to the laundry basket; I'm on the living room floor sleeping next to both (and keeping an eye on Looie), and Dave is in his relciner.  The Spilker household had a "campout" in the living room for the 4th.

This morning, he peed real good and did his other business (with Sarge right by his side, keeping an eye on him), and now they are both sleeping again.  We are to keep him quiet for the next few days.

We have his xrays on a CD so I will take them to our regular vet and the emergency clinic will fax their report to our vet.

So, while this is long, our little guy sure could benefit from some of those doxie rays!  Thanks!  Dee

Oh Dee, I'm so sorry that Looie had such a rough night (and you, too!)  It's the worst feeling when our little ones are in pain and we don't know how to fix it.  We're sending huge, mega rays for Looie that he feels much better real soon.  The fact that he's going to the bathroom alright is a good sign.  Hopefully it is just a bout of the tummy flu and Looie will be feeling his normal self soon enough.  He sure has great loving and caring parents, and Sargey is being a wonderful big brudder!  Hugs to all of you.

Lots of rays!  :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Goodness Dee. I can just imagine your panic at all this! There are a LOT of positive things here though. It could well be a reaction to that pill and may never happen again, just a fluke. It is no fun to wait and watch though. Keep us posted LOOIE get 100% better and no more scares for mom and dad and brudder OK! Hang in there Dee.

I feel terribly negligent because I didn't check this forum earlier.  By this time, I sure hope our Looie is feeling much better.  That little episode must have scared ya to death!  Poor baby boy.  Please know we care and we're sending Pepto Bismol Pink rays to Looie Loo.
