Kevin

Our buddy is gone.  He went to the bridge last night after a long fight.  He was released from the hospital yesterday after showing much improvement.  He ate some food with some enthusiasm for the first time in days.  He seemed happy and alert but somewhat groggy throughout the day and actually came out to the kitchen to beg (and get) some celebratory steak.  Jeri and I thought he had a ways to go, but was out of the woods for the moment. He went to sleep in his favorite bed in the living room early in the evening.  At bedtime we decided to take turns sleeping on the sofa to keep an eye on him and Jeri took the first shift.  At about 11:15, she came to tell me his breathing wasn't right and we decided to take him back to the hospital.  We were ready to go within about 5 minutes, but his breathing was very sporatic, we rushed him to the hospital but it was too late, he left us on the way.  If we had known what the little man would end up going through we would have never subjected him to the surgery, but all indications were for his successful recovery.  At least his last day was pretty good for him.  He got to be home with his pack, and have some favorite foods and quality time.  We were very blessed to be owned by this little red guy and grew to love the breed because of him.  So many THANKS for all your thoughts, prayers and rays during this time.  And many THANKS to Leopold who started us on this adventure in doxiedom.  Because of him we had many special and wonderful memories as well as more than a little heartache.  Also because of him we got involved in dog rescue and met a lot of special and wonderful people through this board.  Our lives have been blessed by this little fella and we would never have missed a moment of it.  Good-bye Mr. Pold, give em heck at the bridge.
Love, Kevin, Jeri, Skeeter and Boone.

Oh, my heart is breaking for all of you.   :sad10:  I am sure you are wondering if you should or should not have gone through with the surgery - but you can at least rest knowing you did the best that you could for Poldie.  I am so sad, I can't imagine how you feel.  I will keep you all in my prayers.  Maybe you can post a memorial picture or 10 of Poldie?  He was like part of many, many families.

For what its worth, I wish I could be there for you.  I hope it helps in whatever small way to know that we share in your pain.

I am so, so sad to for you.  As others have mentioned, at least his last day was a better one and surrounded with love.  No one could have done more for him.  I'm sure that many here feel that Poldie was a member of their extended dachsie family and mourn with you.  My little herd at the bridge is making a new friend tonight.

My heart grieves with you.  You and Poldie certainly fought to the end and I know Poldie crossed the Bridge secure in your love for him.

I'm sorry to hear this; you guys must feel just terrible.  But you gave him so many years of loving care, and he got to be with his family at the end.  I wish I could say anything that would make you feel better...I can only say a little prayer.
Please post some pics of the sweet boy.

Jeri & Kevin, we are so sorry.

We'll miss "Leopold the Long".   Hard to believe that it was almost 7 years to the day that he won that title at the 1999 Bow Wow.   I recall.  Poldie & Max seemed to gravitate to each other at the other successive Bow Wows.

Poldie fought one heck of a good fight.   How many times did it seem that he was ready to be counted out, only to make a comeback?   Ultimately, Poldie made his own decision on when it was time for him to go to the Bridge.   With that, he gave you a final blessing.   There will never be a need to second guess what you did for him.   You did everything you could...and then some.  Many owners would have put their dogs down several times over for all the things Poldie went through, and survived.   Your reward for believing in Poldie was time...time that he would not have had in the hands of less capable or less faithful owners.    It was finally Poldie's time.  No more. No less.

He will be missed by all of us.   We will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts are like the others, my tears mingle with yours. We lost our Emma late last year, who was our first adventure in to the dachie world.
Just remember you are not on your own, we are all here for you, maybe he just wanted to wait for one last time with you both.

Jeri & Kevin,
we´re so very saddened by your news.  Nobody could have done more for Poldie, nor loved him more, we´re sure he knew that and chose his moment to leave at peace.
Bless you and God-speed, Poldie baby.

Godspeed, Poldie-Angel!  I am so glad that you got to spend your last day with your pack and that you scored some wonderful goodies.  Now you are running pain-free and happy at the Rainbow Bridge, biding your time until the rest join you in a happy reunion.  Here's to "Leopold the Long"!

We are so sorry to hear about Leopold. We were really praying that he would do well after the surgery.  It sounded so much like he was doing better.  It is wonderful that he got to spend his last day at home with you and the other pups and had a nice day and good food.  You are wonderful dog parents and sure showed that you would do anything for one of your pups.  Just the kind of home all breeders hope they can find for their pups.  Sending you all  :comfort:  HHHHHH's & PPPPP's  because we know how hard it is to lose one of our babies.

Jeri and Kevin,

I am so so sorry to hear about Leopold's passing to the bridge.  From the stories you told of him, he was quite the little doxie man and quite a trooper!  From the first time I ever read a post about him and read your loving nickname for him....Poldie....I was in love with the little guy!  He sure was special to you and to all of us here on the board too.  I grieve for your loss and send prayers and comfort during this difficult time.  God Bless you for giving Poldie the best and happiest life.  He will always be watching over you from the Bridge.

Hugs to you both.  :comfort:
