Amy up till january this year, used the dog door and went out. But since then she started a piddle inside, say once in a while, then it progessed to once a week to now every day, plus she went out for poo's. The problem is when we are home takes herself out, no matter the time of day or night. She has had the " BAD DOG,NOT HAPPY" the problem is she knows that she should not as she cowers etc when we come in. She is timid so I don't really want to do that.

My work changed in late Feb, to full time, Iused to work shifts and 4 days so for most of the week they were only left for maybe 2 days for a full day, so we don't know if she is scared etc, Oliver goes out ok. We don't want to come over heavy as I don't like doing that unless you catch them in the act.

We now leave piddle pads for her, which she uses. But why the change. Do you think "I'll show you for leaving me" or scared. Emma years ago had a bladder problem resulting from being neutered.

Additional info, Amy was in a kennels situation before we got her, but for the first year ok.

Any ideas gratefully listened to.

ps to piddle pad people, out here they are $20 for 5 so I found that the inconinent pads for beds, can be bought in numerous sizes. $30 delivered for 25. and these are double the size of the normal ones.

It sounds like it may be related to you not being there - since she does go out when you are....but what do ya do ?????    You might want to have her checked, just to be sure - that it isn't an infection.  Maybe go back to basics on potty training - praise and reward when she does go outside.  It is very hard when we are not there to guide them.....but most of us have to work to buy the dogfood !!!!!

We also have a doggie door, and Brandy used to go outside during the night if she needed to (we keep lights on in the back yard all night) - but for the last year or so, she just stopped going out and piddles on one of the throw rugs in the kitchen or poops on the kitchen floor.  Most nights, I don't even feel her get up - just when she comes back to the big bed.  So I guess I have to be thankful she is doing it in the kitchen and not in the bedroom !

Since Amy is using the pads - that is a good thing.  Sorry I am of no help - I am sure others will have good ideas.

Let us know how she does!

Berman and Lucy have to be re-potty trained every now and then.  I just keep a little jar of training treats on my patio so I'm ready.  I'm not sure what makes them revert back to their old ways. I sometimes think it's just laziness! I usually stand out there with them and praise and every now and then give them a treat.

hmmmm.....I wonder if she is just not happy that you are not at home.  I guess in the perfect doxie world, we would all stay home with them all day and attend to their every need.  At least she is using the potty pads!

Thanks you all have thought wha we do.
I have been taking her back to basics, plus she is great she even goes on command for me.  So I suppose at least she goes  on he piddle pad.

I hate not spending as much time with them, but they still get the walks etc they have always had.

I wonder if at some point when you weren't home and she went out she heard a loud noise or something and it scared her. In a dog's mind, that is all it would take for her to associate it scaring her and you not being there to comfort her when she ran in. If you are there, no problem.
I found out the same thing you did about the pads for the beds. That is what I get for Schatzi to use, also. Much less expensive and much larger.
