Title: 12 Dogs of Christmas
Post by: Teresa on December 17, 2007, 08:23:35 PM
Has anyone every watched the movie 12 Dogs of Christmas? I picked it up tonight when I was renting something else. Figured it would be fun to watch with Schatzi later this week.I'll have to get pictures of her watching it. With that many dogs on TV, it should be interesting!

For those of you wanting to have a holiday flashback, here is a link to a commercial many of you will remember. I always considered it the start of the Christmas season!

HAHAHAHAHA!  I love "older than Moses".  Thanks for the laugh.  And speaking of older than Moses, yesterday I was trying to explain what a "Way-Back Machine" was to a 25 yr old co-worker and just who Mr. Peabody and Sherman were.

Feeling a little GEEZER?   Identify this quote:

"Help, Cecil, help!"

Do you know the response?

Don't feel bad when it came time for the 25th Anniversary of JFK's assassination a coworker chimed up saying I wasn't even born then.  Talk about feeling old.

Ok, I'm dating myself (or un-dating myself, as it may)....wasn't around for that Norelco commercial.  But, have you seen the new one online about "second puberty"?  Hilarious!

I do know who Mr. Peabody and Sherman are.

A couple years ago my husband and I were attending the Marine Corps Ball, and a young Marine in DH's platoon was talking to us.  His date was just cute as a button, and my husband said, "You look like Mary Lou Retton!"  To which she replied, "Who is that?"  That was the first time that I felt old!

I don't know the response, but I'm guessing Beanie was calling to Cecil the Seasick Sea Serpent.

Must be the week for this sort of thing.  My 32 year old co-worker had no idea what a fluffer-nutter sandwich was!

I believe you are right, Mike.  But I bet alot of people don't call the fluffer part Marshmallow Fluff, as it was always known as to our generation, they probably know it as Marshmallow Creme.  (Fluff is better)

Remember Ideal Chocolate Peanut Bars?  The cookie?  OMG, they were killer.  I have searched the web for them and they are no longer made.  They have/had quite the following though.

Yep...Marshmallow Fluff and Peanut butter....preferably on white bread.  One of the greatest inventions of the last century!  I think Patty is right and "Fluff" is now called Marshmallow Creme.  I have a fudge recipe that calls for it that is positively sinful!

Yes, the Marshmallow FLUFF fudge is one of the most perfect fudges I've ever had.

Favorite Christmas commercial - Folgers

I was a big fan of the Monkees back in the 60's and checked them out on You Tube and the videos of them have 10's of thousands of hits.

I'm just LOVIN' this thread!  Yep!  I'm officially a Geezer.  Just today I went into Block Buster HOPING that they might have some of the OLD shows that I loved from the '70's.  Alas, when I told the young pup behind the counter what I was looking for, he just looked at me with a kind of "Duh" look and said they only had "popular" shows.  (sigh).....My, how I miss good old TV like Dragnet, Adam-12, Emergency!, Mary Tyler Moore and let's not forget the good ol' westerns like Gunsmoke, Bonanza and The Big Valley...Oh!  I've got all the BV's in one form or another and watch them A LOT!!

Another thing....remember the good old comercials like the one for Tootsie Pops?  "How many licks DOES it take to get to the middle of a Tootsie Pop?  Mister Owl says "THREE".  If you go on the Tootsie Roll site, you can see that great commercial.

TOYS!  Remeber the wonderful toys we had?  Some of my all time favorites were:  Suzy Homemaker oven, Crissy Doll and Jillions of Jewels (one of the spinoffs of the Thing Makers.)  Wish I still had some of those great toys.

I LOVED Emergency, which is funny now, since I'm married to a firefighter! I, too, had the oven, only mine was one of the first Easy-Bake ovens. I also had the jewel maker, and every other kit they made-soap making, candle making, etc.
I think eventually the old shows will make it to DVD, it will just take a little while longer. I think they should have a show on one night that shows all the great commercials from the 70's and early 80's. It would be wonderful to watch.

In speaking of old toys...did anyone ever have "Creepy Crawlers" where you cooked your own worms, crayfish, etc?  Or the Snoopy Snow Cone Machine?  How about a Mary Poppins doll? Or a Tiny Tears....

Ruth, what is Winky Dink?

Winky Dink was a TV show.   You had to send away for a special screen to cover the tv screen .... then you could draw on the Tv ....
Like a bridge or ladder or something to help Winky Dink.
1950's ... East coast maybe

(Somebody must have told me about it .... I can't remember that far back ..... Or is the problem that I CAN remember that far back ... I just can't remember yesterday ?)

That sounds like that was a lot of fun!  I had never heard of that before.  I had a Mouse Trap game that I adored!  I also had a Crissy doll and Marcia, the first group I ever went to see in Concert was the Monkees...my big sister took me and I was just IN LOVE with Mickey     Who used to watch the original Batman and Robin on TV?  (Biff, Pow, Kazowwie!!!)

Batman and Robin-yep, Creepy Crawlers-yep, Tiny Tears-yep (and they released Tiny Tears again when my daughter was 4 or 5 so she had one, too!).  Did anyone have the Whirley-Copter where you flew the helicopter around in a circle and had to pick up the objects? That was one of my favorite things my brother got. I've seen something similar out in the last year or two, and am tempted to get one for his daughter.
I just looked at the site Ruth has a link to. Wow, the memories!! I had forgotten about Hazel, then that reminded me of the Doris Day show. Of course there was All in the Family. And for some of us-Donnie and Marie! I may have to look into some of these as gifts for next year.

Winky Dink, are you kidding Ruth?  Not only do I remember that show, but I frequently get the Winky Dink jingle in my head and start humming away!  I never did have a magic screen but tried using plastic wrap on the TV once.  It didn't work very well.  I have even done internet research on said Winky Dink subject.  I remember it from the 60-70's.  I was rather surprised that it originated in the 50's.

How about all you So Cal people.  Do you remeber Hobo Kelly??  I've done research on her too.  GRAND TV times it was.

Okay since everyone is talking about classics, Who remembers THE ELECTRIC COMPANY? My husband ordered the complete DVD set for me as a Christmas present. I am so excited. I loved the ELECTRIC COMPANY. Funny, I'm almost 40 and I am getting excited.
Also, I teach first grade so I can use it as a center during reading groups. :apls:

Using The  Electric Company should be fun for today's first graders! I remember when Sesame Street first came on. I watched the very first episode. I still remember wanting to be reminded to come in so I could watch it, but I had to make sure everyone knew I was watching it so my little brother would. I was 8 then and too old for Sesame St. (but you're never really too old!), and my brother was 2. I was 10 when The Electric Company came on and watched it also. As soon as I saw the title of the show in your post, the title song from the show popped into my head!
