My father-in-law, Harold, has had a rough few weeks suffering from gallstones that moved into the bile duct, blocking it and setting up a mild case case of pancreatitis. He spend 10 days in the hospital, having two procedures done to get the stones out, and then finally having his gall bladder out last Monday. We finally brought him home, to our house, on Friday. Schatzi has been doing her nursing duties perfectly. They love each other.
Please say some prayers and send some healing rays his way. He is quite weak from being in bed over a week and having no food during that time. His appetite still isn't great right now. Being sick also makes him miss Randy's mom even more, though he has been doing better over losing her until this happened.
Another thing he is dealing with is losing his eyesight. He will most likely be legally blind within 8-10 months. At that time, he will be moving in with Randy and I. This is something we had never really planned on happening, but will adapt to and can make work. This week or so he is here now is giving us an idea of what we may need to do before that time to be ready.
Life has a way of changing so fast, it is easy for me to feel overwhelmed at times, but Schatzi is always ready for a walk when I need one. Meg comes home when she can, and is here this weekend for Easter, spending some time with her Pops and figuring out her role in all the changes.
I will be sure to post some updates on here for the who are not on Facebook. I am blessed to have a great support group here.

tons and tons of rays and good thoughts coming his way.....hopefully his appetite will soon return...and he will be on the mend !  Sending you rays too to adapt to this next chapter in your life.  It won't be easy for him to have to depend on you..but he is soooo lucky to have you all to care for him in his later years.  It will work out fine..you will make it so !!!  Good girl Schatzi for being such a good nursie !

Thanks so much everyone! Here is a funny Schatzi story. Yesterday, Randy was at the fire department and I was outside. Harold was in the house napping. When I came in later, he said Schatzi had come in to check on him. He heard her come through the doggie door, and watched as she looked in the den where he was sitting. Once she saw he was okay, she turned around and went back outside. It made him laugh to know he had a four-legged nanny.
