My in-laws are currently fostering this handsome 5 year old longhaired male for a rescue organization.  They brought Baxter over yesterday.  He is a very, very sweet boy.  Baxter is one of the most submissive male dachsies I've ever encountered.  I'm not sure of his coat color.  He looks blue/tan like Zeke, but has more brown in his fur.   I don't think he is particularly well groomed at this point.  It looks like someone just a set of shears and shaved him down.   We're hoping they'll keep him!

He looks blue and tan to me, but if the hairs are banded (red at the base, blue at the end), he could also be a blue sable.  He's got my Winston's fluffy-duffy coat.  His changed when he was neutered, and got all fuzzy.  It picks up everything outside, but still feels soft and healthy.   Baxter looks sweet as can be.

Hi Dee...yes, he is itchy and does scratch a lot.   My in-laws were thinking fleas, but I'm inclined to doubt it.  I was thinking more of a skin condition such as a hot spot.

Kathleen:  yes, he is neutered and he does have a fuzzy coat.   I'll have to take a closer look at his hair the next time I see him to see if he is banded.   The hair on his trunk definitely had a brown tinge to it.

We did "sweeten the pot" for my in-laws by letting them know if they adopt Baxter, we will babysit him when they go out of town.  He is a good deal smaller than the Zs, probably under 9 pounds by my guess.

The one odd thing during their time together was Zeke's incessant mounting of Baxter.   We know the mounting is usually a dominance thing, but with Baxter being so submissive, it seems like pack order wouldn't be an issue, especially considering that Zeke has alpha traits and has a considerable size advantage on Baxter.  That's why I'm thinking he may have a hot spot under his skin which is "fooling" Zeke into thinking Baxter is a Baxterette in season.
