:meme: I don't know what to do! Merlin and Dr. Beau Leaky have just tunneled/chewed  their way out of the back yard!

Merlin digs and Beau chews on the wooden fence. We tried to block them by using paving stones, but they just tunneled under that as well.

Any ideas? Short of life in Pelican Bay supermax prison here? Does anyone know of the e-mail address of Jim and Leslie Ingram, who founded Almost Home Dachshund Rescue? That's where the boys came from. They may have to go back home to them.

Keren

I'm doing much better with dachshunds and rabbits."

I had my contractor make a dog run for me on the east side of the house about 15 years ago, to limit access when I am not home - they have a dog door from the dining room to that area, also put in about 15 years back.  When Rowan and Bastian came to live with me, I quickly discovered that he is a chewer and a wannabe escape artist.  Shortly after they came to live with us, I had Larry, the contractor, dig down in the dog run about 8 inches, (it's about 20' by 6'), and he buried at least that much hog wire, and then it goes up about 2 feet on the fence.  He then stapled it onto the support 4"x4" beams, and the fence, so it is very secure.  I do not remember the gauge on the hogwire, but Bastian has been contained.  The others appreciate their happy home, food, treats, and choreless lifestyles too much to even plan an escape.
owned and operated by Mirrim, Lessa, and Torene, also forever by angels Friedrich, Heidi, Gretl, Siglen, Sorcha, Brekke, Rowan, Robinton, and Bastian.

I agree 100%.  If you can dig down 4-6" and put chicken or rabbit fencing under ground and up the fence even a foot, it would really help.  It's a pain to do, but it really works.
