There is a mixed breed Pit Bull next door she had pups last winter I would say maybe 5 months ago. I do feel sorry for them last weekend the lady of the house moved out with her three boys the BF was sleeping around on her. I can't blame her  for leaving him. The backyard is the pits think it was mowed with trimmers maybe twice last year. Never been mowed or trimmed this year yet.Toys, piles of trash, wood you name its back there. The guy comes and goes at night so not really sure if he is caring for the animals or not do not even know if they have shelter or not for sure.I did get a ladder and peeked over the fence today saw the Momma dog Mary Jane think the pups name is Rocky not sure. Then they have a cat or two in the house my neighbor saw them in the window. I watered some new grass I had planted next to the fence the water was on the cement curb I could see the dogs lapping water off the cement curb. Hubby keeps telling me none of my business ? Since I cannot really say for sure if the animals are being cared for or not since the guy is there at night sometimes.Mary Jane looked fat and sassy could not see the pup only its tail, the gate is wood but there is a 2 inch space up and down the gate only held in the middle with a paddle lock.Wondering if I should call the Animal control or stay out of it.

I would call Animal Control.

Im sure there are minimum standards for shelter, food and water. Animal control can check on the dogs living conditions.

If you are leery of calling animal control. is it possible for you to slide a dish thru right next to the fence where you could add water with your hose?  You might be able do the same thing with food.

One comment is the mama might look fat and sassy because she has worms or some other health issue.

Is there a back yard light?  If there is not and from what you said of the shape of the backyard, it is sort of hard to believe he is actually walking thru the backyard in the dark to put out food and water!!  He'd trip over things or step in things!!

I would be really tempted to call animal control.  Actually I would be tempted to try and kidnap them but that is not a real smart idea, so seems like animal control would be better!
