Mom has passed away

Its been a while since I was on this board. Mom was diagnosed with cancer last November. My four sisters, along with my dad, have been helping out caring for her. She had surgery in March and they said they got all the cancer, however, mom was not getting well. She would seem to get a good foothold on healing and then backslide. Last Thursday she was re-admitted to Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, for the third time, for tests, antibiotics, saline, feeding tube, blood, etc. They did a CAT scan on Saturday. On Sunday they gave the results to my sister Barb, Dad and I, and they said the cancer, or a new agressive cancer, had spread to her lungs, liver and bones. It was not an option to put mom thru more chemo and radiation, nor did she want to be kept alive by artificial means. She was unconscious from Saturday up to the end. She was moved to a hospice facility on Sunday, and passed away early this morning, May 11, at 1:30am. It is her wish to be cremated, and later on when my dad passes away, their ashes will be spread on an island on Long Lake, Willow, Alaska where our family has a cabin. Dad and I are at my sister Barb's place in Scottsdale now, I have been here since March 21. Our sisters Joan, Carol and Mary are arriving today. There will be a small private family viewing tomorrow morning. We will all help dad out at their home in Yuma over the next few weeks. Then dad wants to come up go up to Alaska and spend the summer at the cabin like he and mom always did every year.

Dan has been wonderful taking care of things at home while I have been here. Dan, Willy and Alex have been quite the three guys hanging out together.

we are so very saddened to hear this Patty. God Bless you and your family for all the support you have given your Mum and God Speed her journey now. I´m sure she was greatly comforted by your company and your love and support helped her leave this world and suffering in the best possible way. Miguel and I will be praying for you all and will continue to hold you all in our hearts, we know only too well how much you will miss her, your poor Dad must be feeling lost too.

My deepest condolences on your loss. It sounds so simple, so neat and clean on your post, but I'm willing to bet you have been through the wringer. And I know from my loss of Mom that you will be through it again. We'll all be here for you to laugh at when you need one, and to cry when you want to. We are all, ALL your dear friends and we have your back on this one.

I want to add my condolences to the group's. I know how you feel. I've been through pretty much the same with my mom 10 years ago. I find it hard to believe it's been that long, it still feels like yesterday. May God give you and your family comfort at this time, and know it will get better. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

You and all your family have our deepest sympathy in the loss of your mom. Nancy and I went through this a few years ago and I still see something and think I need to tell mom about it. If you need to talk just give us a call or post on here I know the whole board will be here for you. That's what is so great about this board.

Patty, Tears have filled my eyes for you as I think of what these past few months have been like for you. I'm sure that in between the tough times, some laughter and memories have been shared and I'm so glad you had the time in Yuma with your mom. I think Karen's post said all that most of us are thinking and I agree with every word of it. It won't be an easy road for you, but always remember we are here anytime, day or night, that you need to vent or talk or just express the emotions you are feeling.
I'll say prayers for you and your family as you go through these next few weeks.

My heart hurts for you and your family - losing a parent is so hard. I am glad that you were able to be with her at then end - so very sad now, but as time passes, you will cherish that you were able to be with her.
