Woe is me

SO. Finally I am home from Vet. Four days at Hospital; two emergency visits in two weeks! BOO. Being eleven years old is HARD.

You would think I am happy to be back home, but now Mom has put me in CRATE PRISON, and I have to stay for 4-5 weeks because of my wobbly back legs. NO FAIR. I cried and cried and howled like this all day yesterday "OwowowoooorrroooOOO POOR ME MEAN MOMMY" but still I did not get let out.

Mom says she is going to buy me a cup to bang against the bars of my cage. And maybe a little harmonica for me to play.

Mom thinks she is really funny. *frown*

Poor Scooter!

Please mind your mommy, she is only doing what is best for you! Maybe one of those "plug ins" that calm you down would work? Healing rays and prayers on their way to you sweet boy

I think maybe if Mom would leave me with some pureed cheeseburgers, this would help my mood greatly.

I think she might need pureed cheeseburgers too. She seems very upset when I can't stop shaking or when I walk all funny. At least I am still walking, though, right?

The V-E-T says after a couple weeks, I might be able to sleep on a little bed in a playpen. Mom is hoping someone who has had similar issues with their furkids might know about this too.

Until then, I will just SUFFER MOST GRIEVOUSLY, POOR POOR ME.

Hey Skooter Buddy, I feel remember feeling your pain. Baby carrots are really nice crunchy treats. Maybe your mom can leave Animal Planet on the TV for your daily entertainment. Hope you feel better soon.

Rays to you, Scooter. Your Mom is just following Dr's orders, and it's hard, but you've got to soldier up and be as good as you can be. Here's hoping that you'll be feeling better in no time flat!

Thank you, Clifford! I will tell Mom to do that. It is a much better plan than getting me a harmonica. Though she says I should be still able to play it even with my very few teeth.

She thinks she is REALLY funny, my Mom.

I am sorry you had to feel my pain too, Clifford! It is NO FAIR that dogs as adorable and handsome as us have to be ill. We should have our parents write a very stern letter to someone about this. Someone very powerful, like that human Oprah person.

Thank you! I hope that I will be feeling better too! I miss being able to walk around without looking like a Halloween Kitty with my arched back. I am not a kitty! (Note: there is nothing wrong with kitties. I like kitties. But I am a DACHSHUND DOG and I should be noodle-shaped, not hairpin-shaped).

I promise to be as good as I can be, even though it is very difficult! The least Mom could do is buy herself a crate and sleep on the ground next to me in solidarity. Don't you think?

Tell your mum that Iz was put into our bed with a fence around it and graduated to da playpen with bed, but as I complained about when she left the room I gotta da crate so don't protest if you are not in da crate.

We bought this metal folding garden edging/fence and use it to barracade them in their bed or out of rooms. I also have a baby playpen that fits bed etc and other dachie for company. I used to only put her in the crate when I knew I was moving about as I carried her to the bathroom to shower, making bed , anywhere I was only going to go for a short time, then I'd put her into her pen. Skooter do as you are told and you may get out sooner for good behaviour.

Oh, no!!!!! Poor Scootman!!!!! Did he have surgery? I found it was easier to use an expen than a crate. It was hard to get her out of the crate, especially when she couldn't help me. I was afraid to pull her. Ron and I would end up putting our feet on either side of the crate door and pull all the bedding out with Gretchen on top of it. We were lucky, though, that we could adjust our work schedules so one of us was home with her all the time, AND ... she was such a good patient. Because of those 2 things, we were able to use the expen more than the crate. Because of his teeth (or lack there of), you can't use chew toys to keep him occupied. Maybe some peanut butter in a kong? Gretchen was into shredding books at the time of her back surgery. DD sent her one that kept her busy for a while. We gave her more after that. Does he have any quirky things like that that you can give him? Is he sleeping at night? Sorry I don't have any better suggestions. I hope he's back to his regular self soon! I'm sorry you both have to go through this.

I hate to hear this, poor Scooter and poor Mom. How many times has he had any back issues, Noel? We just didn't know how lucky we were with Sparky and Sam did we, had no idea all this could happen to a little sweet doxie dog back then.

I hope the time goes fast as it can while he is incarcerated, I agree with Delia peanut butter or yogurt coated kong is a good pastime, do you leave the radio or tv on softly for him? Can he see out a window or anything so he doesn't have to stare at the walls althouhg you have to be careful if he tends to get worked up over things he sees out there. So sorry you are going through this, sadly not too many doxie owners are spared this ordeal. Give him a kiss from us and keep us posted! Is he able to potty and walk on his own?

Your poor little guy! It´s rotten your in prison and that´s no way to treat an eleven year old. Talk about adding insult to injury laughing at your plight, hoomums can be so rotten sometimes.
We think you should stay really still and quiet so she gets you out of there really quickly for good behaviour.
Hang on in there pal, we wanted to send you a Spanish ham with a file but our hoomum says the customs people would eat it instead.

No, Scooter has not had surgery - I hope it doesn't come to that. I'm scared to death of it, actually; with him being old(ish) and it sounds painful and like there's a long recovery. I'm hoping very hard that crate rest and meds will help him.

Aw, the imagine of Gretchen happily shredding books is adorable! I wish Scooter had something to occupy him - he did halfheartedly squeak his toy a few times last night. I will buy him a Kong to put frozen peanut butter in - thank you for the idea! Should I get him a larger one? I know they make small ones for small dogs, but then I read some horror story about a dog getting his tongue stuck in it and it swelled up and the blood supply was cut off and his tongue had to be amputated. Which is probably a one in a million chance, but naturally (because I'm neurotic when it comes to Scooter) now I'm worried about that.

Thanks as well for the advice about an ex pen! Maybe if he does well after the first couple weeks he'll get to graduate to one. For now, he seems pretty quiet and relaxed in his crates (either that or he's depressed, poor baby). He will stand up and step to the front of the crate to be picked up and taken out - should I not let him do this?

Auntie DD! I would jump up for joy and give you puppykisses if I could! Can I come live with you and Hallie? I remember you and her and I am very fond of you and also you have an awesome backyard! And Hallie is SO CUTE, sigh.

I have only had one bad back day since I've been living with mom - and it was just that I didn't feel like jumping up on things, so she got worried and took me to the V-E-T and they gave me pills and then the next day I was all better. Poor mom, she is beside herself and you are right - it is because Uncle Sparky was made of reinforced steel or magic or something and never had any troubles whatsoever. I am glad your Sam was the same way so at least you had some stress-free time too!

Mom is getting me a Kong tonight - maybe a bigger one because she is a worrywart and has convinced herself I could get into trouble with a littler one. So I will have that to play with soon! And she leaves the window open so I can see the sun and trees and sky. I mostly nap while she's gone but I am still happy about that. Hopefully she will get me a rawhide that I can pretend to chew with my gums while she's supervising me too. And she let me sit on her lap for awhile last night as long as I sat very still.

I still don't understand why I have to be in PRISON and cannot sleep in the big bed with her, though. NO FAIR. I think she should sell her bed and sleep on the floor with me forever. It is the least she can do.

Oh! I do potty on my own. And I took almost ten wobbly steps yesterday! That is good, right?

Scooter tell you momma to look into acupuncture, it really helped Tofu. Also tell her your crate should fit nicely on the bed beside her head that way she can put her fingers in and rub you till she falls asleep. This is what Tofu made me do. Boy am I glad that his crate rest is over. :apls:
