You all may already know this but I just found out about this today DIL & son have been married going on three years now. DIL called to check on her wedding rings I asked what happened to her rings she said if you have white gold they need to be re-dipped ever so often. I said never heard of that so today asked my two sisters they both have white gold rings they said they have never heard of it.
I'm nosy so I called a well known jewelry store they said yes white gold needs to be re-dipped now and then because about 40 ears ago the changed the metals mixed with the white gold. That it does not need to be done with yellow gold because it comes out of the ground yellow.
Both my sisters have been married over 40 years so that is why their rings did not have to have it done.I wear yellow gold so do not have that problem guess I'm old why can't they leave things alone why do they have to make things cheaper especially like wedding rings.
Now my DIL has to take her rings to a jewelry store to have them re-dipped the jewelry store does not do it the rings have to be sent off somewhere else to get it done. That is crazy I wear my rings 24/7 even when I worked as a Nurses Aide made beds and every thing. So guys if you do not know about this something to think about if you buy your girl a ring.

Oh my gosh...that is so interesting...and I have never heard of such a thing.  My wedding rings are yellow but I have other rings that are white gold.  Thank you Papbouv for posting this.

Thank you for posting this!!  I had no idea.   I was considering getting a white gold wedding ring since my other one was lost recently. :doah:   I think I'll stick with the yellow gold.  I'm glad I read this before I made my purchase. :apls:

Never heard of that one. I think I'd be getting them melted and something else added. Were  told that about it when they bought them.............My skin tones don't go with silver, white gold or platinum so I'm a yellow gold.

I do not think my son was told that when he bought the rings he picked them out and really surprised her big time they only dated 12 years before he finely asked her.

My wedding rings are white gold.  You are correct that white gold rings have to be dipped (re-rhodiumed) periodically.  Over time, the white gold takes on a yellow hue, so you have to get them dipped to restore them to the shiney white gold.  The benefit is that when you get the rings back they look brand new.  If you get a warranty for the rings, it usually covers this.

I personally think it is a big racket example if married for 30 years that would be  10,800.00 dollars if at $30.00 a year to get the rings dipped not counting if the price goes up. Thanks but no thanks glad I have my yellow gold that you do not have to do anything too.
