Dog Park!!!!

Iz gots to go to dis brand new pwace in town. I hab neber eber been anywhere dis cool before. I went to de dog park in our old town, but I neber got to be wif da odder doggies. (dey were all too big and mean!!) Yestaday, my mama put me in da car, and daddy drove us to dis pwace dat had a BIG fence and a HUGE place to run. In da souf end dey had all dese tunnels, and ramps, and da sticks you weab frough. It was gweat!!!

When we got dere, Mama was worried bout how I would act around da odder dogs. So we stood outside da fence and sniffed a few first. Den we went in. Mama took me off da leash and I took off!! I saw dis man dat looked weally nice sitting on a bench, I went to him first. Once I got up dere I backstepped a little cause I saw his BIG doggie laying unda da bench. YIKES!!!! But da guy told me it was okay and Toby and I became good buddies. We eben layed down togedder and shared a snack of gwasshopper.

Da guy jus happened to be da guy dat built da park AND he said dat he had two doxies at home and one dat looked jus like me!! Dey aren't allowed in da park acuz dey can't be nice.

Next I got to meet a Scottie dog named, Martin. We were kind of both scared of each odder. Mama finks its real funny da we we doing da butt sniff to each odder and making a perfect circle. Since neither one of us likes odder dogs sniffing us dere, we kept walking faster and faster until we were running. We went round and round till we fell down dizzy. Da hoomans howled at dat!

(simple minds...) Den we were buddies after dat.

I also met Tucker and Akon. Akon was REAL scary, but he didn't hurt me. I fink I wanna go back dere again. Also da guy said he was going to gib me a wed wibbon next time I come for da bestest behaved doxie.

:apls: He telled mama what doggies to avoid so wez can be safe. We fink its cool he can watch his own park like dat.

Fin Says: Porky dat sounds like SO much funs! Good for you for bein' a nice pupper!! I want to go play at a doggie park SOOOOO bad! I LUV udder doggies, but we dont know of a place dat has a fence. So its hard for me to play with udder dogs cuz da leeshes get all tangled up! ANd i runs SO FAST so my momma is scared to let me plya off leash wif no fence.. I cant help it if i gets 'cited and dont see da road!!

So far we have only one dog park in Greenville, and considering the size of the city, that is pretty pitiful. Once it was built, and it is way too small, the city and the county realized the need for many more. A second one is being built and two or three more are planned. Schatzi hasn't been yet since the one we have is so small and a lot of the dogs there are big and it is just too crowded. I hope to take her to one of the other ones when they are finished.
I'm so glad Porky had fun. I really think it is great that the person who built the park is able to come out and watch people enjoy it. That is just awesome and must make him feel as if he has done something good for the community.

Porky Pie, it sounds like you had so much fun! And, you deserve a red ribbon for being so good! Glad that your Momma and Daddy were able to take you to the park!

Mom said that I could go to a park sometime but Duggie couldn't cuz he has "big dog syndrome".......he thinks he can take on all the big dogs.......we know cuz he has tried to do so with a fence between him and the big dogs that walk in the school yard in the evening. Mom always makes sure that we are both in when they come........after all, if Duggie is going nuts, then I must protect him......like he needs it.....but he is my brudder! But if Duggie can't go, then I don't wanna go!

dis is Parker: I goes to da doggie parks all da time. In our city evey park has a fenced small dog section. You has to be under 15 lbs to pway dere. Dats where I pway. Sometimes if dere is not many dogs, I go walk few da big park. Dere is a stwem in da big park where all day big doggies pway in an get all dirty. I don't pway dere.
At da doggie park dere is always doxies jus like me. Dere is Riley, and Rocky, and Gracy, and Lucy, and Chuckie, and Hershie, and Jack, and Albert, and Sadie, and oh my goodness sooo many doxies. Den dere is da pugs, too many but dey is okay for pwaying wif and day furry ones. Sometime JRT's pway in my park too, but sometimes dey is to wild and dey get told to go to the big dog park.
Sometimes I just sit wif my Mom if dere is no doxies, cause I pwefer to pway wif my on kind

My city is bery big on doggie parks.....dere are 5 off leash fenced parks.
I'm glad you had fun Porkie.....but don'ts be wolling in anyfing or you gets the baf.

Oh Porky, that sound like soooo much fun. We have 2 doggy parks. The close by one doesn't have a fence, so it's good for doggies who don't wanna run away (that's us). There's another doggy park in SLO but it's clear across town. It has a little dog area. We're so glad you found a great place to play! Our Mommy is learning that with me (Bonnie), I am MUCH more aggressive ON LEASH, but once the leash is off, I pretty much (accept sometime....heee heee) lose my "big dawg 'tude". Have fun playing!

Sammy says: I go to the dog park around here, and I love it! I like to play on the big dog side, NOT the little dog side. Those little dogs are wimps who can't hang with dachshunds. There is even a little area with sand, and doggies can get into a little part of the lake. I just got my feet wet, just enough to get all sandy and dirty. No swimming for me yet. I want to take all 3 of my brothers there, and we will rule the dog park. Glad you had so much fun Porky!

The man in charge of the dog park is literally a hero. He fought hard for the park and used his own money to fund it. All this and in March, he was laid off and lost all his retirement. Yet, he still fully funded and made sure the park happened. Talking to him, he explained that he was disappointed that he couldn't get rid of the sandburrs and thorns int he southide of the park and has fenced that part off to keep dogs and humans safe. He wants to watch his park to make sure he can kick out dogs that are too agressive before an incident happens and makes the reluctant city council close it down. I could go on and on about what this guy has done for dogs in our town.

Porky has "big dog" syndrome also. At least I thought he did. Once we got him there, he was submissive and calm. I was so impressed. I think Porky is just really protective of his "turf" and that's why he acts differently at home.

We have seen that with Porky too. The leash is on and he goes psycho, the leash is off, and he's a sweet boy and wanting to play with all the dogs.

That's a wonderful experience for you Porkie, it is so lovely to meet and play with a lot of dogs. Beach park is so much fun too.
