I have one sneezy doxie lately. Schatzi started sneezing on Friday. It isn't constant-we mainly notice it when she first wakes up from napping, but once she starts it lasts for awhile. She seems to feel fine and she is eating fine. I've been thinking allergies and have given her some benedryl.
We did board her, along with Molly, last weekend while we were at the beach, but Schatzi had her kennel cough vaccine. My only concern is that she had gotten it two days before we left. Does anyone know how long it takes for it to have her immunity built up? One of the people who work at the place we boarded her (and I LOVE this place) goes to our church and I will hopefully see her this morning. I plan to mention it to her and see what she thinks.
Any ideas from anyone here?

Are her eyes runny too, or is it just an occasional sneeze from the nose thing, without coughing?  Hopefully she´s just mildly allergic to something around there.

Red and Islay recently started sneezing about 8-10 times in a row every morning after I brushed them.  Silly Mummy, I´d bought a load of perfumed candles back from our holiday on Cape Anne, N.E., had them in the cupboard below the drawer with their brushes, combs etc.  I moved the candles and now they´re fine!

Hope it´s something easily remedied.
Love from us all.

No runny eyes. Just sneezing and some reverse sneezing. It doesn't seem to have gotten worse, just stayed about the same. Really strange. One other thing I noticed yesterday, but not related to the sneezing. Schatzi is our barker. She tell everyone in the neighborhood off. Whenever I come home, I always go to the side porch before acknowledging her, because I know she will get excited and piddle. Yesterday she wanted no part of going outside. I didn't think too much about it then. Later, Molly was outside barking. That always gets Schatzi out the door. She goes running into the kitchen, puts her head out the doggie door and then barks. We have no idea what has made her not want to be out there. I'm thinking something must have scared her. She will go out quickly to pee/poop but that is it. She finally went out briefly while I was out cooking, but still stayed off the porch. Weird.

How very strange.  It´s a rotten thing to ask but could there be some kind of animal has installed itself somewhere it shouldn´t have done around the grounds of your house?  Doesn´t sound like kennel cough but could be an allergy to something/someone new.

I wondered about an animal, too. I have a feeling she may have gone out the doggie door and had a surprise. Today has been much better. Only a couple of sneezes this evening and suddenly the porch is okay again. I guess she decided that she had to defend her territory if Molly wasn't going to consider it a full-time job-for Molly, she only defends it if she happens to be out there and sees something, never because she hears something and wants to expend the energy to go outside and investigate!

Porky and I are both extra sneezy again this week.   When Porky's allergies are really bad he avoids going outdoors as well.  She may have gotten scared, or she may have figured out when she goes outside it makes her sneeze more.     The benedryl should help her, but it usually takes a few days before you will see a major change.    When Porky gets really bad, we give him an oatmeal bath and scrub his skin really well.

What works the best is to take an old, clean sock, fill it with the oatmeal, tie a knot in it, and cook it like you normally would.  Once its cooked, you let it cool off. Then you put your baby in a tub (whatever you normally bathe them in) fill it with lukewarm water (not too warm!!) and gently rub the oatmeal sock over their skin.  Porky just loves this and it seems to make his skin slightly less itchy.  The steam also helps him quit reverse sneezing and wheezing.

I hope Schatzi gets to feeling better.  I know how hard it is to see them like that!

Thanks for the suggestion. She is much better now, but I will copy and save this. We are about to hit fall allergy season full force. I also think I'll try the oatmeal on Molly and see if it helps her.

You're welcome!  The only bad thing about this remedy is the effect does not last very long. With Porky, we give him the benedryl and then immediately do the oatmeal sock.  Basically to help him not go crazy with the itching until the benedryl kicks in.   I would say maximum relief time is about 15 minutes from just the oatmeal.    Our little neighbor girl says that it makes Porky smell like cookies.   :2funny:
