Sigh......Porky's eye's are still pretty swollen, but no longer goopy.   The vet instructed us that if the eye ointment didn't get rid of all the swelling and stuff by yesterday, to bring Porky back in.    We went in yesterday for two reasons....not just the eyes.     For two days, our bedroom smelled strongly of stinky feet.  Being the loving wife I am, I blamed my hubby for it and instructed him to go wash his feet.   Yesterday afternoon I was taking a nap and when the hubby came in, I smelled it again.    Of course I again thought he was the culprit.     :doah:     He left the room and the stench remained.   I couldn't figure it out until Porky came out from under the bed.     Apparently, Porky had been trailing his "dad" and that's why the stench seemed to follow him.    :2funny:      I gave Porky a bath just thinking he was stinky from the hot weather we've had.
I started cleaning Porky's ears and then I noticed it was his ear wax causing the stink!!

So....not only do we have a serious allergy thing going on, we now have an ear infection to contend with.   I am so frustrated it took me so long to notice, Porky showed NONE of the signs he normally does when his ears are bothering him.  There was no head shaking, no pawing at them, nothing.     The vet said we caught it early and it is an outer ear infection, so Porky should heal up fast.    :xfinger:   I have a special cleaning solution from the vet and have to clean his ears 2 times a day and then bring him in again next week.

Now the eyes,  the vet was concerned that the eye swelling hasn't gone down.   He instructed us to stop the eye ointment and keep a close watch on him.    If they are the same or worse by our appointment next week, then we will start him on a different prescription.   Also we will get him started on a prescription allergy med from the vet.    It starts with W, but I can't remember the name.    Also if Porky's ears get worse, he will need an oral antibiotic.

All this means our week with no drugs (which was supposed to happen this week) is not going to happen.   :doah:   The holistic vet had gotten it cleared with our regular vet to have Porky off the meds so we could see which one of her treatments are actually working for him.   She was very nice about it when I called her and suggested that we schedule a group of appointments for early next spring.  She said she will pretend like we are brand new so she can give us our free week then.

I'm so disappointed!   I thought Porky was doing so much better, he was acting happier and was wanting to play ball again.   We almost were to the point where he could go for walks again.    He and I both miss our morning walks!  They just aren't the same without him.    If we didn't have such a tiny apartment, I'd buy him a treadmill so he could get some exercise.   I have been doing all the cleaning necessary to help with his allergies, and it doesn't seem to be helping.    The pollen count for weeds is outrageously high right now, and I am wishing for winter now!

We had a horrible night with Porky wheezing so bad.  We spent the night in the bathroom with the shower making a steam room for us.    My allergies were crazy last night too, so I can sympathize with him.    We're putting in our orders for an early frost this year.      I'll keep you posted on how Porky is doing.

Mega tons of healing and comforting rays and prayers to Porky and to you and your husband as well! (I too suffer from allergies which are severe at times, but have never had to go through anything like this.) Hopefully there will be a breakthrough soon in discovering a remedy for these very aggressive allergies that poor little Porky is dealing with. I'm so thankful that he has you and your husband for the most loving and devoted pet parents to help him through this! All of us here are with you in heart and thought! Please keep us posted as you are able to.

Just a thought ---- the doctor may not want to add anything into the mix of medicines right now, but is there any type of vitamin-mineral immunity booster that would not interfere?

Thank you so much for your sweet words!!!   We talked to both the holistic vet and our regular vet about adding an herbal or something.   They both stated that until we get it under control we shouldn't add any herbals, etc... to the mix.   The reason for that is if he would have an allergic reaction to one, we wouldn't be able to tell.    Plus, many of them would interact with the benedryl and make it not work.    The only thing we can do until next week, if give the benedryl and the teaspoon of fish oil.   The holistic vet said we could bump it up to 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of fish oil as long as Porky's tummy is tolerating it.    Giving him that much can cause diarrhea since he's such a little guy, so I think we'll stick with the 1 teaspoon.

One other suggestion is to ask the vet about trying another one like benedryl.  Sometimes the other ones like it work better for some dogs. That's why I take the claritin.
Good luck and hope you feel better soon Porky.

Poor little guy,  he really has been having a rotten time and you two too.  You must all be exhausted.  We´re rooting for you from over here and hoping for a freak frost and new, quick and accurate diagnosis so he gets better soonest.  He is way too brave, it´s awful he had the ear infection at the same time and hadn´t shown you.  Love from all of us over here and rays for one of the bravest little guys around, dear Porky.

P.S.: sorry for laughing at the fact you thought the smell could have been coming from hubbies feet!!!!!

Don't feel bad. I laughed about that as I was posting it!  My poor hubby, he really did get self concious about it.    Thanks for the extra rays.  We're hoping to get this over with soon too.  Porky and I have an advantage, we get to sleep whenever we want during the day.  We have been making sure my husband get more sleep since he has a demanding job.   So far that's working pretty well.   :xfinger:

Boy you guys just aren't getting a break yet. I was hoping he'd be much better by now. Allergies are such a hard thing. Sounds like you are on the right track though with eyes and ears!

That is too funny about hubby and feet you won't live that one down for a while I'll bet!

It sounds like his allergies are getting worse over the years, which is, unfortunately, the way it usually goes. I hope you find a solution soon. Poor Porky (and poor you guys, too). Let us know how things go.
