We had quite a day yesterday!    All morning, Porky had been acting kind of puny.    Then about 11 am I was in the kitchen making some tea when I heard Porky start screaming.    Scared the heck outta me!!!!!!      Porky's screaming went on for 5 minutes.   It was so so scary.  I couldn't figure out what was wrong with him at all.    Then I felt some swelling on hs back leg.    :ambulance:

I immediately called our vet, and tried to make arrangements to make a payment in full on Friday (payday).   They were unable (unwilling) to let us charge the visit.    :BangHead:  They are an animal hospital, and I totally get that they have been swindled one too many times, but we have always paid cash on the spot.  I was even willing to give them our bank account information so they could run it through Friday morning and they still refused!    They told me to just ice his leg and watch it.      Porky was shaking and crying so that wasn't an option for me.

I called all over for the next hour and finally found a clinic willing to let us charge the services and get us in as soon as we arrived.    The vet I talked to there was concerned that Porky's leg may have popped out of socket.         So I got Porky all loaded up and we made the three hour drive to the vet.   :doah:    As soon as we got there, they rushed us back and started feeling Porky's leg.     By this time, the swelling had gone WAY down and Porky was walking on it again.   The vet was confident that his leg was fine and wasn't sure what caused it to swell.   While we were talking,  Porky started screaming again and shaking.

The vet felt him everywhere and we were stumped.  They took xrays of his tummy, did an ultrasound, everything was fine.         Then Porky started pawing at his face and whimpering.     The vet said, I'm totally guessing here, but maybe Porky is having an allergic reaction of some sort and he has a headache???     They gave us some prednisone and instructed me to watch him closely.    Also, we are guessing he got bitten by an insect or spider and had an allergic reaction.(causing the leg swelling)     :dontknow:

We went home and Porky seemed to perk up and was acting so much better.   Then this morning, he woke up with goopy eyes, itchy ears, and is basically miserable again.    Please send Porky some extra rays.  If you have any ideas about what is going on with him, we'd really appreciate it!!!!

You mentioned the vet gave him predisone. Is he still on predisone? He should be taking it for at least a week. So if he only had one dose, perhaps it wore off over night.
It sure appears to be an allergic reaction of some sort. Are there occasional spiders, or bees in your house?
Our JRT had acute allergies. He was even allergic to some cleaning stuff, laundry detergent, fabric softener etc. Sometimes he would break out if he sat on somebodies knee (a guest), and their clothing was laundered in something he was allergic to.
Anyways keep us posted, and hopefully that little Porky pants will  get better soon.

He is on prednisone for seven days.    I haven't seen any bees or anything in the house, but I'm sure we have spiders.

That totally sounds like a sting bite of some sort. My moms Akita used to attack bees and eat them then get stung all over (you would think she would learn after the first one) and she would cry and cry and rub her face for hours. Akitas have very thick fur so we couldnt always feel the swelling from the stings but if you felt along her body you certainly could feel them.

I saw how it effected a 75lb Akita.. so i can only imagine how a 10lb Dashie would react. I bet he will feel better soon, just keep a close eye on him outside.. Puppers have a habit of going back to the scene of the crime!

Porky is feeling a little better now.   I got on my hands and knees and crawled all around the area where Porky was when he screamed.    I did find a dead bee, so I'm thinking that's what did it.  It was pushed under the edge of the bathroom counter so it was pretty hidden.    I also did us both a favor and gave the apartment a HUGE scrub down  (natural cleaners only)    I washed the blinds, the walls, the window sills, anything that culd possibly attract dust or pollen was scrubbed or washed.   Hopefully that will help.  I've been having headaches because of my allergies all week, so we'll see if we start feeling better now.

Thanks for all your ideas and concern!    I hope we'll be done with this now, at least for a week.  :xfinger:  I'm emotionally zapped out, and I think Porky is too.
