Porky has been walking around tail down all afternoon.  He always has his tail up and wagging.  I'm really worried about him. He seems just as active, has an apetite, and is drinking water fine.  Any ideas what could be going on?  Sometimes, it is straight down other times it is curled a bit?   Do you think his back is bugging him?  How can I check?

He has only done this tail thing once before and it was when he had gastrointenstinitis, but he's not whining or anything like he did that last time.  His stools and potty have been normal.   He really has me freaked out so if anybody has some ideas that would be great!!

I'll let everyone know how he is again in the morning.

I hate it when they do that and you don't know what is wrong. Hallie did that to me big time most of yesterday. Then she snapped out of it but all day today she's been very slow and wanting to sleep. I hate it...it could be nothing or it could be something big and they aint' talkin'! Worry worry...sigh. All we can do is wait and watch when it's not obvious enough for a vet visit. Lets hope we both wake up to happy normal kids tomorrow.

I sure hope Hallie is better tomorrow too!     I don't think I'll be waking up tomorrow, since I probably won't be able to sleep. Porky did perk up a bit, but not much. He's pretty sleepy and seems to have a sore tail.  I noticed its a bit swollen, nothing major. I'm thinking he pulled a muscle yesterday when we were on our spring walk in the park.   :dontknow: He was wagging his butt so much I wouldn't doubt it if that's when he got hurt.    I hate that he can't speak and tell me what hurts and when the pain started.

Amorette, could something be up with Porky's anal glands?

I hadn't thought about that.  I'll have to check.  Thanks for the idea Cheryl!!

That's a good idea I wondered about that too. Everytime Hallie's had a back thing I PRAY it's her anal sacs! So far no luck there but sometimes it is that would be an easy fix for Porky! How is he feeling now?

Sending "get bettah" rays to Porky and Hallie.  Didn't Porky recently go on new allergy meds?  Could he be having some kind of side effect?  That's what I hate about most meds.  The side effects can be worse than the problem they are supposed to help.

Had the vet check out Porky yesterday.   His glands, were full, but there was nothing wrong with them.  We had that taken care of, then we moved onto the next step.  The vet felt all along Porky's back, hips, and tail.   He felt nothing wrong but we did notice Porky shaking a bit.   Not sure if he was just scared, or if he was hurting.     :dontknow:  Also there is a viral thing going around in other dogs in our area, causing tummy upset and cramping.   So we they are running a blood test and are going to do a stool sample to rule that out.

As a precaution, we are having him on crate rest at least until the test results are in.  That will take several days since they are swamped with sick dogs right now.  Here's the three possible diagnoses we have right now... 1. Weird virus that's going around
                                                                        2.  He may have pulled a muscle on his walk the other day.
                                                                        3. His back may be giving him troubles.

We'll keep you all posted on how he is doing.  He seems to do a tiny bit better everyday, so I'm hoping it is the virus or a pulled muscle.

Sandi,
Great idea!   Porky isn't on new meds, just started them up again for this year.    I only give them to him on an as needed basis, so I don't think its the allergy meds giving him these weird symptoms.    Its definately a question to ask the vet if we have to go in again.

He peed tail up!!!!    :apls: :meme: :hello2:  Okay, so it doesn't mean he's all better yet, but he hasn't been able to do that all week, because it hurt too much.   He is acting MUCH happier today and is content to just lay around in his crate.  I put it in the sunshine so he can soak up his rays.   He is still tucking his tail, but making efforts to lift it a little more.

Dee Dee and Hallie

Peeing with tail upright is a great thing!  :hello2: Sounds like he is on the mend. This will probably be one of those things where we'll never know what it was...as long as he gets better that's ok LOL. Yeay Porky Pie! And such a good boy to be calm in his crate.

Hi everyone!  Porky is still really sleepy, but I would say he's back to 80% of his normal self.   :apls: He seems to be feeling much better!  He's not tucking his tail nearly as much today and is holding his tail up just about at normal height.   The vet wants us to do one more day of crate rest and then we go in tomorrow to see if we need more crate time or if Porky can be free again.    Thank you to everyone that sent rays and prayers!!!

That's great news. Sounds like you are about out of the woods with this one!!! :thumb:
