Thank you, everyone, for your kind words and thoughts. They truly mean more than you know. We are all doing as good as can be expected. Gretchen is doing the best. We let her sniff Ilsie when she was gone. When we got home, she gave the little doggie bed Ilsa last used a good, long sniff and then it was she said, "OK, what do we do now?" She's really loving being an only child. Seeing her happy has helped tremendously.

Ron and I are not faring as well. Luckily, we have each other. Just as we think we're doing OK, one of us just breaks down. But ... we have no choice but to live this life we didn't want - minus Ilsa Jo Johns. She is the third pup we've lost but the hardest, by far. The other 2 were 15 and 16 and, although we loved them dearly, there is something to be said about seeing them lose their hearing, sight, etc. It's like when the time came for them, they were ready - their little bodies had gone as far as they could. Ilsa, though, was 9 and still had so many good years in her. And ... it didn't help that she was acting perfectly normal until 5 hours before we took her to the vet. This was what I had hoped for her - that she would not know what was going on until it was too late. I'm hoping she never realized she was leaving us. But it was the hardest for us. She left a huge hole in our hearts. Ron and I are trying to concentrate on Gretchen and making HER life the best it could be. It's a nice distraction.

Again, thank you. It's nice to know some people truly understand. Farewell my sweet baby girl!

I know what ya mean, Simon-Angel was only 11....I feel so cheated that I didn't get to keep him to 15-16.

I'm so, so sorry to read this tonight. I've been offline a few days. I know that Ilsa is happy and carefree, but it doesn't make the hole in your heart any smaller. I'm just thankful she didn't suffer and was able to play and be happy until so close to the end.

I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Ilsa, she was such a darling little wheaton wire.  Nothing can ease the pain of losing one of these little dogs, only time.  Know that a lot of your friends here know what you are going thru and we are always here for you.

I can't believe I missed post this for so long.   We're all so terribly sorry to hear of Ilsa's passing.   We hope that the pain of her loss will eventually fade so that only the happy memories remain.   You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Oh Delia...I am so, SO sorry.  *massive hugs*  You and Ron are two amazing, loving people...Ilsa was so lucky to be part of your family, just as you were blessed to have her.  I know there's nothing I can say right now that will ease the grief, but please do know I am thinking of you, and that Scooter sends love and mostly-toothless kisses your way.  Farewell, sweet Ilsa.  You just know Sparky-Angel will be delighted to meet you on the Bridge.
