Berman's seizures have gone from about once every 3 weeks to once every 2 weeks. I spoke to his doctor today and he thought it would be best to put Berman on medication. I'm not a big fan of any sort of medication. I like to fix things as naturally as possible - diet, excercise, etc. I'm upset that Berman has to be on medication now. And the worst part - he has to take 1 pill twice daily - every day! Ugh! My poor baby!

I have to take him to have blood work done in the morning - to test his liver. Then they'll call in the prescription.

Last week, we had a chocolate cake incident - he took a big ol' bite of my cake. I rushed him to the animal ER and they induced vomiting. I swear - it never ends!

Jenny,
Don't get too upset about it. My Zeke was on phenobarbital from the time he was 2 till he passed on at 15 1/2.  It didn't seem like it
made much difference in him - just way less seizures.
Good Luck to you and Berman!!!

Berman will certainly be more comfortable and have a real quality of life, hopefully, free from seizures.  He'll do just fine.  Rays to Berman.

Jenny, My Harry had seizures and they controlled it with medication.  Later in life, Harry had a ruptured disk in his neck and he didn't require surgery, but he was put on Rimadyl daily and it really helped him.  He was on it for 2.5 years before his old age took him to the Bridge.  Don't discount the power of medication, it really can help.  Seizures are a very scary thing, I know, listen to your vet, I don't think they suggest medication idly.  I have a vet I trust with my whole heart and soul.  I hope you do, too.  Please let us know how Berman is doing.

Poor Berman!!  That is scary that his seizures have gotten worse, but from what I have seen in our Brittney Spaniel, that particular medicine really helps.   She took it for 8 years and had no problems with it at all.   I really hope things get better for you and Berman!!!   :comfort:

My grandmother had a dachsie who took that from the time she was 1-2 years old (I don't remember exactly but she was barely not a puppy.)  Amy lived to be an old dog and was happy.  She didn't have seizures anymore except in a few extreme situations.  Of course she was having at least one a week, usually more when she started the meds.  So they can do really well on it.

So sorry to hear that Berman's seizures have gotten more frequent.  Trust your Vet.  They would not place Berman on medication needlessly.  It should make Berman feel much better :thumb:

Jenny - so sorry that the seizures have gotten more often.  I don't like meds either, but if this will help him feel better - then it is the best thing for him !!!  Many have mentioned that they have dealt with lifetime meds.... so you will have some good info here.  Please keep us posted and give Berman and Lucy and Mango a big smooch from me !!!
