Mom 'n' Dad are planning their summer vacation.  They are talking about Glacier National Park.  When would be a good time to go?

They like to do "touristy" things, but also love to hike (not backcountry).

Mom has been to Yellowstone at least 6, if not 7 times and they plan a stop there to do a couple of hikes they didn't get to do the last time they were there.

I'm not going to go with them; husissy may take care of me, or I may go to my favorite vacation place while they are gone.

Hello hello...... we love playing tour guide!
For Glacier National Park .... Late June through Late Sept...... before or after that it depends on the weather ..... the last few years the road going through the park "Going to the Sun Road" has not opened all the way through until late June ..... some years it has been opened in mid May ..... it all depends on the snow.

AND
if you are flying into Montana .... the closest airport to Glacier Park ... which is in Kalispell .......Glacier International Airport
is going to be closed for A LOT of the summer.... for repairs on the runway ...... the newspaper said only open something like Friday nights thru monday AM.
If you are driving it shouldn't be any trouble.  Plan on at least 7-8 hours driving between Glacier Park and Yellowstone .... lots more time if you are going to stop along the way. ...... like at the National Bison Range... between Missoula and Kalispell.

The last picture is MaMa's favorite spot "Sun Point" in GNP.

Please feel free to ask us lots of questions.

We will be driving - don't want the hassle of air travel.  We're still in the early planning phases for this trip.  I'm a planner; want to know when and where exactly; with planned hotel stops.  Hubby is more of a "let's just head out and see what happens" type.

So, we butt heads quite often, to the point where we really need the vacation :fight:

when I was a young man I spent 30 day in february in Glacier National Park. Backpacks and cross country skis, snow caves and tents. It was a high point for my life.
