are back!!     This morning I woke up to Porky wheezing in his little bed.  His whole body was stiff because he was panicked due to not being able to breathe.    I gently rubbed his neck to calm him down and then I thought he was over it because he laid down and wanted to go back to sleep.    Next thing I know, he's vommitting on his blankies and wheezing again!   He hasn't had any wheezing or vommitting in the last hour, but we are just waiting for the hives to start popping up again.

You can see in his eyes he doesn't feel well.   So far we aren't seeing anything except the sleepiness and lots of sneezing.    The vet told us that as long as he is not getting the hives and I am comfortable handling the wheezing calmly, Porky can stay at home.  But, if it gets worse we'll have to take him in.   Right now, Porky is laying in the sunshine with the C-A-T.   It really is adorable because Patches (the cat) is laying down and Porky laid his head on her back and side.

I think Porky will be okay since we gave him some benadryl immediately, but wanted to postpone Porky's DOX News updates and his Star of the Day for at least this week.   I don't want to take any chances of him getting worse, so I won't be on for a few days except to update how he's doing.  I plan on doing the strict dosage of benadryl again as advised by my vet until Wednesday.   So, I will be very tired from having to stay up and watch him.

I am so sorry to hear this. This sure isn't turning into a good thing for our Nebraska pups. Rays and prayers from all of us. I will ask Mimi to watch over him and give him some extra help!! She is a good comforter.
I am a better person because I have my Mimi and Tuttle and now Carson!!!

Barb,
It is harvest season and the pollen count is outrageously high right now so we are sure that is what is causing this.  We live in town, but have trucks driving on the main street and spreading the crop dust through the air.   Thank you so much for moving his Star of the Day!   He is still doing okay.  He is very sleepy from the benadryl but so far he has no hives.   He had some wheezing a few minutes ago, but he stayed calm this time.   We haven't gotten any thing new in the house.  We did have the ducts cleaned out this weekend to make sure my parent's house was allergy free for him.   We had him stay with us at our in-laws while that was being done so the dust wouldn't bug him.    Maybe some dust is still in the air?   :dontknow:

Mel,
Thank you so much!!  We would love to have Mimi sending comforting rays to Porky!     :comfort:

You might want to check with the vet.  Zena has had some issues with allergys ( we have decided it is something in the house unless she decides to play in the weeds) and I give her children's claritin.  She does very well on it. I also have a bottle with a couple of the steroids in if things really start to act up.
The claratin doesn't make them sleepy like the benadryl.

Hope Porky feels better soon.

Sully Angel use to get really bad allergy attacks in the fall. I would be raking leaves  in the backyard and he'd have to breathe with his mouth open, but refused to go in the house.  As it turns out all of my furkids have had fall allergies, but Sully's were the worse.  We hope that Porky'a allergies don't last too long his news reports are the best on the air.

Porky did okay today. He did end up getting some hives around his eyes and nose, which makes us 99.9% positive its all the dust and pollen in the air around here.   We took him into the vet just to be sure, and they gave him steroid shot.  Hopefully that will do the trick and it won't be like the last allergy outbreak a few weeks ago.  Porky has only been off the medicine since last Wednesday!   Porky had a few more periods of wheezing, only one was real bad.   He was so scared and got all stiff again because of the panic.   I just kept talking him through it until he calmed down enough to start breathing right again.

Porky is feeling better because he came up to me with his little swagger (happy dance) and growled at me. Then we played for a little while. We'll keep you posted.

Before I freak you all out with the details of last night, I'll tell you Porky is just fine now and his allergies seem under control now.   Last night around 8 Porky started wheezing very badly.   He just couldn't get his breathing back to normal.  We decided to take him into the vet hospital.  Before we left we gave them a call to let them know we were on our way.  They told, no don't try to come now, we'll be sending someone over.   About 15 minutes later, our regular vet tech showed up at our door.  He said the vet hospital called him and told him we needed help and they knew he could make it to us faster than we could get him to the hospital.   Let me tell you we were relieved to see him!  He got there when Porky's breathing was the worst.

He calmed Porky down and put a little oxygen mask over Porky's snout.  Porky finally started breathing better and then the vet tech checked him over to see if the wheezing did any major damage to his lungs or brain.   He said everything sounded and looked okay, but he was going to have to have the vet come over just to make sure.    So we waited a litttle while and by the time the vet got there, Porky was running around acting like normal.   They gave us some more prednisone to give Porky.   He's on the same decreasing dosage as two weeks ago.    They also taught me how to massage his throat and sides when he wheezes to calm him down faster.

Porky hasn't had any problems since, minus a sneeze every few hours.   It was a very scary night and I didn't sleep very well, so Porky and I have been napping on and off today.   His energy and happy attitude are back full force today, so I think we're finally beating these allergies.   We decided against getting him allergy shots for now, because they would be very dangerous for him and Porky would have to stay overnight at the vet's everytime he got a shot.  So for the summertime and fall months we will be having him on benadryl to control the allergies.   Hopefully, we can be done with prednisone for good in two weeks!    :xfinger:

Thanks to everyone who has been praying and sending rays to Porky!    :apls:   I hope to post one of Porky's DOX News updates on Friday or Monday.  Depending on how Porky does.   The vet was so impressed at Porky's improvement today he said we may start decreasing the prednisone as early as Friday.   :meme:  :hello2:
