Well, Oscar saw the vet this afternoon and is now on Clavamox for two weeks.  Then he will go in for a dental (Sept 30th).  The vet will probably have to remove two back molars.  He also gained a pound from his last visit and the vet would like to see him drop a pound or two.  So there will be a change in his diet.

Stealing his teeth and his food?!  Not fair!  Poor Oscar.  We'll remember to send our ultra-healing rays on the 30th.   Good luck with he weight loss too!  Hope the medicine helps him feel more comfortable.

Poor baby!  Well, give him some green beans mixed in with his kibble and he'll not be hungry and still lose the weight.  It'll also be soft so he won't have to chew as much either (easier on his sore mouth!).  Cajsa likes the 'green bean gravy' that she used to get on occasion.  (It was simply pureed green beans out of a can.)  She's a veggie dog though.

I'd especially like to know how things go - let me know what you had to do.

Ozzy has some tartar buildup and his breath is horrible, so I'm thinking about having his teeth cleaned, but I'm hesitant to put him under (over-protective Mom).

So, anybody's insights would be appreciated.

Rays and prayers for a good outcome, and Ozzy green beans are the bomb!

Lucy gets her teeth cleaned about every 2 years. I think Wilson will be due to be cleaned in about 6 more months.

Just have the vet do the full blood work up and they'll have the information they need to put them under safely. My dogs have never had a problem while getting their teeth cleaned.

So long as your vet does a blood workup before the dental, there should be no problem.  Oscar and Bonita have both had their teeth cleaned before.  It is better to get the dental done, then leave the bad teeth in their mouth.  Oscar's mouth really was bothering him, but now the meds are working and he is feeling a bit better.  Those molars are so bad and, if they are not pulled, it would lead to further health problems.  Please talk to your vet and I'm sure he/she will make you feel better about having the dental done.
