I am at my wits end here.  Maddie has developed more itchies.  She does NOT have fleas and is on Advantage flea stuff.  These itchies seem to have affected mostly her feet.  It was so bad last night that mommy moved from the bed to the recliner so as not to wake up papa, who can be a bear if he doesn't get his 7 hours.  I even had the cone (lampshade) on her, and still she wormed her way around that to get to her feet.  The feet aren't red or swollen and it seems like she really doesn't bite them much but does constantly lick them.  The Oatmeal Bath today didn't do a lick.  The aloe vera gel did nada.  The hydro-cortosone isn't working and now I'm out of it.  The 1/2 of benedryl works for about 1/2 hr but then she's back to it.  I've made a vet appt with a new vet (same place we get her allergy food-Royal Canin) hoping they can give her a shot and something to help.  Maddie doesn't tolerate Temeryl (itch med) very well so hopefull the Vet will come up with something else.  I'm off to bed now and am going to sleep on the futon tonight because the Roo is STILL at it and probably will be all night.  Any suggestions until the Vet visit on Saturday?

Wow.  I really feel for you.  It sounds like you've done everything you can!  Maybe it's a psychological issue?  Anything new or different in your lives?  I hope you get some answers.

Oh no !  Poor Maddie !   Sorry, I have no ideas...... sending rays though !  Let us know what the vet says.

My parent's beagle has major allergy issues every summer...she has to get allergy shots. She incessantly licks her paws and my mom has found these wipes from Petsmart to really do the trick http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752808

Roscoe-Angel used to bite his toenails.  He had the shortest nails ever.  I joked that he had anxiety issues.

But itching is new to me - I'll send more rays!

Dee Dee and Hallie

Hallie has "hallergy" issues too and bites her feet. I had her allergy tested when she was about 2 and for the last 6 years she gets an allergy shot every 3 weeks. Not steroids, but the immunotherapy stuff that is a lot safer for them. It really helps her a lot, her itchies are much better than they were when I got her and like Maddie, in the winter they are pretty much gone. But you have to give the shots all year because they take about 9 months to kick in. Once they do though they really should help and she can take other things to give her relief in the meantime.

Molly is the same way. We think hers may be related to food so we are changing the food as of today. She has gotten worse since we have moved, so the grass may be playing a role, but she always has had a small problem it just gets worse in the summer months. Now that I've researched a lot more on Bulldogs and diet, I'm thinking it could be the grains. I do think I'll get some of the wipes that Kari mentioned when I go to PetSmart later. Definitely worth a try.

Loki takes foot itchy med.  I thinks it's Hydroxoxine?  Anyway, she gets the late summer itch and we get her oin the meds right awaya s she can do considerable damage to herself in a short time.  I find that a cold compres helps in the short run to break the

Thanks all for your concern.  Madderoo and I slept on the futon last night so we....er....she wouldn't wake Mark.  Did I say sleep?  Not at all!  Well, she maybe dozed about 2 hours (stretching it, I think) as she would be so exhausted, she would HAVE to sleep.  I snuck in maybe 4 hours between scratching.  I didn't even do the lampshade because she has a way of sneaking behind it to scratchhardnow.  The funny thing is, she hasn't  broken any skin and she isn't  red or bumpy anywhere that I can see.  Mark just reported that she finally fell asleep just now.  Tomorrow, hopefully, will bring answers.

Kari, we've tried those wipes. Unfortunately, they didn't even faze her.

Leslie, I will ask about the med you talked about.  Since Loki, Hallie and Maddie are of the b/t persuasion, maybe it's a b/t thing.

UPDATE:  I don't much know about doggy temps but she seems very warm to me and her nose isn't cold and wet.  I'll watch her water intake and we'll get to the doc in the AM tomorrow.

Dee, I think we're starting with a shot tomorrow.  Just a thought.....could this be a psychological thing?  Does she really need to see a doggy shrink?  No changes here.  We obey the dachshund really well around here.

Anyway, I'll let  you know what the doc says.  Thanks again.

Just read in this issue of Dog Fancy for itchy dogs to wipe them down with the clear vinegar when they come in from outside??? Worth a try would be cheap too, they also say if you give a dog apple cider vinegar it really helps with the skin & coat issues I believe it is called Mothers it is at one of those Herbal stores on line.
Do not want to steal this thread but my mother who is 78 yrs old feeds her Chi chicken which is good but also feeds her dry cat food and dry cat food treats she has been feeding this dog that for years. The dog is about 12+ years old she was a rescue. Poor Penny is a finicky eater always has been she chews her feet all the time I have told my mother ten million times quit with the cat food already that most likely is the problem I get well I'm not going to starve her. She takes her to the vet for shots steroids does not help the itching on this dog. Had another go at it today no luck like talking to a brick wall sometimes.
