All who brush their Doxie's teeth was wondering what kind of brush do you use ? what kind of dog tooth paste or what you use on the brush, how often do you brush & do you use anything else on their teeth?
The tooth brush I used with Gizmo the little Papillon I had bought a new head for it it was the little Brum round brush with a battery,Gizmo's mouth was little very little. Patches has a way longer jaw and allot more bigger teeth than Gizmo so having problems getting Patches back teeth done. Will be calling the vet soon to have a Dental done on her. Buddy's teeth are Great big white teeth big dogs do not have the problems the little dogs do with their teeth.Anyone try the Dental Vaccine they have out??? Last but not least does anyone use marrow bones or knuckle bones to keep their dogs teeth clean??? All my questions will be interesting to see who does what & how. I put Patches on top of the washing machine with a towel under her to brush her teeth. Does not take long for the teeth to get away from you when you are ill.
Thanks ahead of time for all replies.

I have just recently gotten a brush - prior to that I used the dental wipes.  When David posted about being so diligent in brushing the Z's teeth, I decided I was going to try again.  I got the beef flavored tooth paste and try to do their teeth at least a couple times a week.  They really like the toothpaste and that may have been why it didn't work years ago.  I haven't figured out the right routine or how to get the back teeth really good - but we are working on it !

David C.

I use one of those two-end toothbrushes.   I use the small head for Zora and the larger head for Zeke.  I use some chicken-flavored toothpaste that I purchased from my vet.   When I'm being conscientious, I usually brush their teeth 2 - 3 times per week.   The key is not to bear down too hard.   If you haven't been doing it, you'll probably get the gums to bleed the first few weeks you are doing it, and sometimes it seems like there is a LOT of blood.   It's not that much, and it will get better.

If you are really feeling ambitious, after you have been brushing for a while, the tartar will sometimes flake off by using your fingernail.   I was able to clear close to 90% of the tartar in Zora's mouth by using this technique.  Zeke's mouth is easier to brush, but the tartar is more stubborn.

sorry this is late.......
I brush both of my kids teeth.  Delilahs are beautiful and white so she get brushed one a month with a doggie toothbrush and beef flavored toothpaste at bath time.  In-between brushings I use dental wipes when I remember. She had one tooth pulled because it was cracked, but has had no other problems.

Franky has always had "yuck-mouth" so he gets brushed one a week and I try to use the dentall wipes often.  I also have a scaling tool that I use on his canines cause he get tartar real bad.  He had a bad tooth right now which will likely get pulled soon.

I tried some topical stuff from the vet that's suppose to help between dentals, but it was gooey, expensive, & the kids hated it.  I tried it for 6 months and didn't see any improvement.
Good Luck!!
