Kari

The last couple of days she has seemed a bit mopey but fine otherwise and today we noticed that she was holding her tail a bit funny and just acting really strange. We did the pressure test on her back and she yelped. Same spot as last time. We are assuming the inflammatory focal myelitis again. They told us that it was possible that it would come back and that she was only in remission. Please send rays for us all. I was just thinking a couple of days ago about the fact that it was almost the year anniversary from when all her back problems started. We were going to take her in to the emergency vet this afternoon but when I talked to them they told me that her neurologist was in tomorrow and I could get an appointment at 11 am PST. I talked to one of the techs and was cleared to give her some of the left over Tramadol for the pain. We have her in the x-pen and she isn't even fighting it - just holed up under a blanket sleeping.

For those of you who aren't familiar with her problems here is one of the posts from earlier this year:

Oh no!!  Kari, tons and tons of healing Rays and Prayers on the way for Penny, you and Drew    I pray this is only a minor setback.  Maybe it is just the weather change!!  That does tend to effect our babies' backs, particularly if they have had a surgery; they get achy.  Again, tons and tons of rays headed your way :comfort:

So we saw the Neurologist this morning and basically we are going to do a wait and see. All her neurological responses (flipping feet over) are great so we know it isn't disk problems. She didn't seem to have the pain she had yesterday when her doctor pressed on her spine. We are going to keep an eye on her and not give her any pain medication to see if the pain med was masking the pain even though it had been 12 hours since she had any. We are hoping that it was just a fluke and that she will be fine. I told her Dr that I felt silly freaking out but with her history we felt it best that she was seen. Her doctor was awesome and said that she was glad that we had brought her in and that she was happy to see her any time! So we will keep our fingers crossed!!

All fingers and paws crossed here that it is just a flare up and will be taken care of by the meds.  Of course, you had to freak out - your a mom !!!!  Always better to be safe than sorry - and catching things early is a great thing !  Keep us posted and lots of healing rays to our Penny !

GREAT!!!   :hello2:
I think most (good) vets understand when we freak out over our pets, better safe than sorry.  And so many things can be fended off when detected early.

Glad to hear she is doing better today!!!!  :thumb:   Sending HHHHHHHH's & PPPPPPP's for you all.  I know how hard it is for them to be in pain and we don't know for sure what is wrong.  Hopefully is is just a little upset and she is back to normal right away.

Sorry that I'm just now seeing your post but glad to hear she's doing better. I think that freak out thing has happened to all of us that have had a doxie with back problems - I know it's happened to me. Yep...trip to the emergency vet (because, of course, things like that can't happen during regular hours or during the week!!) only to be told she's fine. D'OH!

Kari, How is Penny doing? It's been a few days. I'm hoping she's getting better each day.

Thanks for asking! She seems to be doing better - She still isn't herself but there are no evident signs of pain. We are still watching her like a hawk though! We are hoping that she will just continue to get better and back to her normal self.

Is Penny still on meds?

No. When I talked to the Dr on Sunday afternoon they had us give her pain med to control the pain but at the appt on Monday she told us not to give her anything else so we can really tell if there is something going on with her. So she isn't on anything at the moment.

Oh no Kari! I missed this too. I rarely check the other forums and do miss a lot of news. I am so sorry...I am glad it hasn't turned into a full blown episode. Many rays for Penny and you and Drew too (and a few for Tucker for good measure). Please keep us posted.

Good. At least she's comfortable and WITHOUT meds! That says a lot! Continued rays coming for her 'normal self' to be appearing very soon!
