Calling for ice, possible power outages as well. First major one of the year. I hope that anyone here on the board that is in it's path stays warm and safe. I lugged in a bunch of wood to the garage in case of power failure, made my trip to the store for the nessecities. Even picked up some toys for the dogs so they have something to keep them occupied. I have a stack of movies to watch and a stack of books just in case the power does go out. Settle for the weekend!! I hope no one else has to deal with this but if you do please stay safe!!

Just talked to my mom, who lives near Omaha, and she mentioned that it could be bad.  Stay safe!

MEL!!!!  I just looked at your map and OMG!  You live within walking distance of my sister!  They lived in Woodcliff for a long time, but about two years ago moved across the tracks and built a home on a ridge that overlooks Woodcliff!  I would love to say hi next time I visit Nebraska!

Jeri, I actually live in Plattsmouth. I couldn't get the pin on the map in the right place! I am south of Omaha! But still close enough to visit! That would be so much fun! You can meet Mimi, Tuttle and Carson! I really like how this board brings people together! I hope you Mom stays safe as well. Did she stock up? Even the weathermen here are telling people to stay home tomorrow!

That would be fun!  I went to Plattview High, so I grew up not terribly far from Plattsmouth.

How neat is that? I just changed my location on the map. Before I was having problems and just gave up. Now it worked! I grew up in Ohio not here but came through Plattsmouth every summer so it seems like I did!!

Mel,
When is the storm supposed to start for you.  It was supposed to hit us real bad too, but ended up just missing us.  We only maybe a 1/2 inch of it here.  There is real bad ice on the roads though and we had ice falling from the sky for a little bit.  BE VERY carfeul!!!   I really hope the power stays on for you guys and you can stay warm.  Make sure to buy a campstove or something so you can still have warm food to eat.   I hate to say but I think the storm will be awful for you guys.   :doah:
Please check in when you can so I know you are safe.  We'll be praying that it isn't as bad as they are saying it will be.

The storm started here at 3 am Saturday morning. There was about 1/2 inch of ice over everything. Didn't loose power though. If it was more windy we would have. Then it warmed up and everything is melting. I was able to get out and go shopping for a bit. But tonight is going to be bad again with every thing freezing again. Will have a nice fire in the fireplace and enjoy the evening inside. Got plenty of toys to keep the pups occupied tonight as well. Petco had a nice sale going on so I got some more toys. (no they are not spoiled at all) I was afraid it was going to be a lot worse then it was. So we lucked out. And fortunately most people adheared to the warnings and didn't go out on the roads this morning!! Didn't hear much accidents reported! That is always a good thing. Glad it wasn't bad for you either doxielady. I though for sure it wouldn't hit you guys at all.

Yeah the storms always seem to just go right around us.   Which in some ways is a good thing, but we are sooo dry here, we are in Exteme fire danger and is December!   I was hoping we'd get hit hard from this one as we haven't seen a real snow in about a year now.   I'm glad it wasn't too bad for you guys at least not yet anyway.    We got some snow this afternoon and evening, so the ground is now just barely covered.   I guess every little bit helps.

Jeri

At least you didn't lose power.  I better call my family and make sure they did as well as you did.  I checked out your update on the map.  I must say, I liked it better when you were my sister's neighbor, lol, but your still close enough that we can say hi!

Boy, I sure am glad you guys didn't get hit real hard from the Big Storm.  I bet it was real nice to cuddle by the fire!!!  In Ohio today it has gotten really windy with gusts of wind up to 50 something miles an hour.  Yesterday it was calm and a balmy 52 degrees!  We will have some ice and/or snow just in time for rush hour tomorrow.  Go figure!!!

My gosh, you aren't kidding when you say it's windy!!  I think we just may have blown into Ohio by now.  We have the 50+ mph gusts here as well. Although I think they're more constant than gusts.   Is it coming from the west there?    Ours is a west wind so we got up to 59 degrees today!   Tomorrow is supposed to be WINDIER and 60 something!   I feel like asking, Is it March again???!   It sure feels like it.   Weirdest weather for December.   I can't imagine it being windier tomorrow, but our weatherman was quoted at noon saying, "well, you better make sure your roof is nailed down tomorrow."

One of my clients that came to the gym today showed up an hour later than usual.  When I asked her wh she was so late she said, "well I woke up, got ready to go, opened the front door and SMACK!!  I got hit in the face with a tumbleweed.   I shut the door, took off my shoes and went back to bed."    :2funny:  I shouldn't laugh because her face showed that it was a true story, poor thing had scratches on her nose.  But... the mental picture is sooo funny!

Our storms normally come from the West....It just must be windy all over!!
