After we moved I had to set up the tv and vcr/dvd player.   Since we don't have cable we use an antenna to receive three channels.  I had to hook the antenna up to th co-ax cable on the vcr.  Then I connected the other co-ax on the vcr to the co-ax on the tv.  This has always worked in the past.   However, in our townhouse I had it set up so we could record on one channel while watching another.  Its not working now.  Also when you watch a video or dvd here there is an annoyng squeal the whole time.  I'm lost on what to do to fix it.   If anybody as any ideas that would be great.  Also, the videos used to play on a different channel, now they play on channel 3.    :dontknow:  I have no idea what is different. I'm thinking I hooked it up wrong but just can't figure it out.

Its not really a big deal, its just irritating.  My husband and I are having movie night on Friday and I would like to be able to hear the movie instead of that irritating squeal.  i can usually figure stuff like this out, but this time I'm baffled.

Ok, I'm going to try to be of some help.  Seems that every time we move, I always run into this problem too.  And just when you think you've got it figured out from the last move......something changes (or so it seems.)  From what I'm reading, it looks like you hooked everything up correctly.  The antenna is hooked into the coax marked "in" on the vcr, and then you have a cable running from the coax "out" on the vcr to the "in" on the tv.

It's possible that when your vcr got unplugged for the move, because it was devoid of power for a while, it may have caused the settings to go back to the default.  You may want to check the setup menus in your vcr to see if anything has changed.  Did you have cable in your old place?  If you did, you may have to change the setting in your tv and vcr from "cable" to "air".

I have no idea what could be causing the annoying squeal.  Maybe try cleaning the heads of the vcr.  And with moving, there's always the chance that things got jostled around, too.

Hope this is some help.  I'm dealing with a similar problem with the tv and vcr in our bedroom.  It worked fine until I had to swap out vcrs....exact same hookup, but for some reason it doesn't work the same!

Great ideas Beth!   We haven't had cable for quite some time at our last place.   I tried the menu thing and it wasn't much help.   We still have the squeal but its not nearly as loud now. It even makes that noise when we play a dvd.  It almost sounds like an interference thing.  :dontknow:  I'm not sure what would cause that.  The squeal goes off and on throughout the movie.

I have decided i'm going to break down and have my daddy come look at it.  He's an electronic genius!   I just really hoped I could figure it out myself.    :doah:   Thanks for your helpful ideas!!   I really appreciate it.   I'll let you know if my dad does figure it out.
