Is it possible to feel any more guilty...

Recently I started working more hours so I get home around 3:30 instead of 1:30. I check on Penny with the PennyCam (now that our house is off the market she is back to staying home) each day and recently I have been seeing her around 1:30 sit by the back gate and just stare at the gate. It makes me feel so bad!! It makes it hard to run any errands on the way home since I know she is waiting! I am taking her to my mom's for "day camp" the days I go to the gym after work... She really knows how to crank up the guilt!  :verdict:

They sure have a sense of time, or I should say a sense of what time it is.  Misty was the same way.  Every night she would sit on the back of the couch and stare down our entry hall, waiting to see Dan's headlights shine on the glass in the front door as he came into the driveway.  Then she would run and wait by the laundry room door for him to come in.

We had a family dog who knew when the bus would be going by that held my two younger sisters.  He would sit and look out the big window and wait for the bus to go by, then he would go sit at the top of the stairs waiting for that front door to open.

I used to worry about leaving Willy and Alex, but come to find out, they sleep until noon everyday.  No wonder they are so revved up when I come home.  Those two boys are very well adjusted, thank God.  Whenever we need to leave or have them contained for some reason, all we have to say is "time to get in your pen" and in they go.

Don't feel guilty about Penny, they are much more resilient than we are.

They really do have such a sense of time. Even Mr. Tucker does! When we sleep in on the weekends they wake up at the normal weekday time (5:15 am) and want to be fed. Also, we crate Penny at night at the same time and Mr. Tucker usually wanders down the stairs and sits by the baby gate 5 minutes before her crating time waiting for the gate to open. Penny also knows what time Drew gets home from work and will start watching for him - when she hears his truck alarm beep she does crazy!

From watching the Pennycam...Penny usually sleep all morning too! usually around noon or so she gets out of her house. Seriously...no wonder they are crazy with energy when we get home - they sleep all day!!

Patty, your post reminded me of my first dog, a boxer.  My grandmother would come every morning to take care of us and the house, etc., because both my parents worked full-time.  This was back when dogs pretty much came and went with no leash laws.  Patsy, the boxer, would go down to the bus stop, about three blocks from our house, every morning to wait for Grandma's bus and walk with her to our house.

That's a great picture of Miss Penny!  Looks like she had fun pulling the blankets out of her house!   :2funny:
I know what you mean about feeling guilty....  I hate having to stop anywhere before I come home at night because all four always meet me right at the gate.  I try to get to the gym three nights a week and I pass it on the way home.  I go back out after daddy gets home and know that they are not alone.   I suspect that no matter how WE feel, they forget all about it the minute we walk in.

Don't feel guilty at least she has  someone who is coming home to her. My guys just sleep till about midday and our neighbor says shehears them occassionally in the back garden chasing birds, but at present Amy is restricted to her pen

Boy howdy, I know what you mean!  Since I work a 1/2 mi from home, I've made it a habit to walk home for lunch at 12:30.  The Roo has come to EXPECT this.  It really reins in my desire to go elsewhere for lunch knowing I have a very expectant wienerdog waiting for me at home.  Who rules things around here?  SHE does.

Just wait till the time changes this weekend boy I bet we all get strange looks for a week or two I sometimes wish they would leave the time alone.

Oh man. I don't think there is any guilt comparable to the guilt inflicted upon you by a Dachshund. I guess it wouldn't help if we told them how some less fortunate puppers have to live!

Then I suppose the line "I had to walk uphill to school both ways through 4 foot snow drifts in 90 degree weather" won't work either.  RATS!!!
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

Awwwww poor Penny.... lol !!!!  They ALL guilt us - don't they???    I always feel bad when I can't go home right away after work - but as long as they get treats, dinner and a walk when I get there - they are happy !!!!  99% of the time - I am READY to go home - so I do anyway !!!!
