Hello, I'm new to the boards, but a long time dog fancier and owner, and have had doxies for a long time.  I would like to get a second right now... and really would like to rescue.  I am up near Pittsburgh and wonder what agencies you all recommend or maybe there is someone nearby that works in rescue/foster.  I do fostering regularly with dogs and kittens.  Just last month I sent two kittens off to great homes that didnt come to me in the best of conditions... my cockapoo Simba is a foster that ended up an adoption!      She's just the sweetest thing.

If anyone knows of anything let me know. (I am aware of DRNA I have applied before, but my elderly aunt become ill and I was running everywhere taking care of her so didnt think it was the best time for another.) I was looking at Addison on DRNA but she doesnt appear great with other dogs and thats a must for us.   There's not a lot in PA, quite a few are pending adoption.

Also to possibly get involved in dachshund rescue & fostering specifically would be wonderful!

I know there is also Almost Home Dachshund Rescue. I'm not sure where they are located. There are plenty of people on here who have rescues and can tell you who to get in touch with.

Hi,
I work with Almost Home Rescue, but I've been with them so long I forget how I got associated with them at the beginning. If you go to their website http://www.almosthomerescue.org you'll find all sorts of organizational and contact information.

Welcome to Wiener Writings Mae.  Very nice to meet you!!!  Would love to see pictures of your brood :apls: :apls:

Rich, I followed the link to Almost Home Rescue.  In reading the website, I found something very interesting and something I did not know.  I always google search online, but I just found out that if you go to
www.goodsearch.com and search the internet with them instead of google, you can donate monies to your favorite charities; i.e. AHDRS....just type in your Charity's name and click on verify....then search away.  What a wonderful way to donate monies to wonderful causes.  Wow :headbang:

Dachshund Rescue (DRNA) has some members with Doxies in the Pittsburgh area.  Coast to Coast also has some folks in Eastern Ohio and a reasonable distance to Pittsburgh.

You will fnd them all if you just type Dachshund rescue into your computer.  Also check Petfinder and search.  I know there are a number of non-breed rescues that post dachshunds.

We are looking for our 5th doxie rescue fur-child and I can recommend it highly!

Good luck,

I applied to Almost Home.  They declined the app until Zoey is spayed.  I won't be able to do that right now as she was supposed to be available to the breeder for possible breeding, I had understood this when I purchased her.  We were supposed to reach a decision concerning whether to go ahead and get all her certifications or if I just wanted to spay her.  I am definitley leaning towards spaying, but for now our app rests!   We're still fostering for another shelter as we speak we could possibly get a little girl this week.   I was hoping to get into doxie fostering.. but we'll do what we can for now.

Hi Mae,

I haven't been active for a while but I am a member of DRNA and you should fill out another app. We do adopt to households with unaltered animals although we do try and educate and talk people into fixing their pets. Especially if you are going to foster. But you should get on the website and contact Dona she can alway use help in PA.
