Berman woke up Saturday night at about 12:30 with diarrhea.  He had to go outside about every hour from 12:30 till the morning.  I fed him some boiled chicken - I was out of rice.  He threw this up and of course ate it again before I could clean it up.

I had already told my mom and grandma I was coming to see them for Mother's Day, but I didn't want to leave Berman at home so I loaded up Berman and Lucy for the 1 1/2 hour trip to my mom's.  I thought Berman just had a stomach bug or ate something weird outside.

Berman threw up the the chicken again during the car ride so I threw it out.  He had a little bit of water at my mom's, but just laid on the couch the whole time we were there - except for the 5 or 6 times he had to go outside to poo some more.  By this time, there was either nothing coming out or just a tiny amount of liquid.

I decide to take him the emergency vet.  Now, we are about 1 1/2 hours away and I made it to the emergency vet in about 45 minutes! Berman's temperature was a little high and Lucy and I waited 2 1/2 hours while the doctors ran test on him. They found a large amount of bacteria in his intestines and gave him fluids to hydrate him.

When we had a lot of rain last weekend, the sewer system on my end of town had backed up and some raw sewage had come up in my yard.  The city was supposed to come out and clean it up and it wasn't till Friday that I realized they hadn't.  I think Berman may have gotten into some of this.

I cried all the way home thinking of how bad Berman felt and it was something I could've prevented!  I am so mad that I didn't call the city to make sure they cleaned it up or just checked the yard myself to make sure it was all cleaned up!

Poor Berman can't have any food or water for 24 hours.  When I get home this evening, I'm supposed to give him just a tiny bit of water every hour until he can keep it down then tomorrow morning he can start eating some of that E/N food -again, just a tiny bit.

I've already began really cleaning up my yard.  The city was out Friday and sprayed it with bleach water, but I'm cleaning it up even more.  I even think I'll just completely resod it - it's not a very big yard at all!  I've been watching Berman when he goes outside to make sure he doesn't eat anything and I've been logging all his attempts to poo (even though nothing is coming out!).

Also, Berman isn't getting much sleep because I keep poking him to make sure he's ok.  I know - I'm a very worried mom and need to stop so he can rest!

Please send any rays you can to my poor boy!  We've had a rough couple of days!

Well at least you have an idea of what caused it! I can see that you feel terrible but believe me, Berman only wants to love you and know that you will take care of him.  Sometimes things happen and you really cannot blame yourself!
I definately would contact your water treatment facility or whomever takes care of that sort of thing!  Who knows what the reason was that they didn't clean it properly, but they should know that this caused your boy to get so sick.
Smooches and soft belly rubs to Berman (although I'm sure he is getting LOTS of those).  Major Dachsie rays coming from my crew!
