I've still been unable to get a group picture of my new family -- which has expanded to nine dogs (plus two fosters) and a few dozen birds. However, I do have these pictures of our "honorary'' dachshunds -- a Clumber spaniel named Bear and two basset hounds, Lily and Isabela (we also call Bela). Bela has glaucoma and has only one eye. She'll probably lose the other eye at some point.

Melanie and I are settled into our new home near Fort Lauderdale, about a mile from my previous house. My sister comes to visit next week, and she loves to take pictures, so I'm hopeful of getting a good shot of Melanie, me and our entire menagerie to share.

Great pics Mac!  I'm still laughing over the Christmas picture in your kitchen!
How is Melanie feeling?

Gotta love the Bassetts.  Even though they are of different lineages, somehow dachsies and bassetts seem to know how to connect with each other.   I distinctly recall encountering a female bassett back when Rudy was a puppy and he was convinced that it was his mother!

I used to have a basset hound and my black/tan doxie Dr. Beau Leaky (yes, he is) looks more like a mini basset than a doxie.  He has the rounded head the lower set ears and the biggest paws I have seen in a long while!  I will try to get a better shot of him so you can see him better.  He and Merlin were rescued by Jim and Leslie Ingram of Almost Home Dachshund Rescue Society.  They were strays in Alabama and finally ended up here in Baltimore in their forever home!

I'm doing much better with dachshunds and rabbits."
