We have quite the big sky out our bedroom window.  In the evening, the Big Dipper hangs right over the barn.  I get up a couple times during the night and always look out the bedroom window to look at the stars if its clear.  This morning the Northern Lights were out.  They were white, and just dancing around like crazy.  I have never seen them as active as they were this morning, it was like a white, flickering fire.  Really neat.  The Northern Lights are something I never get tired of seeing.

Oh Patty, I am sooooooo envious!  The Northern Lights are something I have only seen on film and hope to someday be able to see in person.  It must be wonderful to be able to look outside and see that kind of beauty!

Terri, it is truly amazing.  Usually they are a light green, but I've also seen a combination of green, lilac and white.  One time they were directly overhead, and you could hear them crackling, it was SO neat, and a little spooky.  Up at our cabin, where there are no city or street lights around, we see them often.  One time they were a vivid lime green, and real active.  It looked as though God was finger painting.

I can only imagine seeing that in person. I'll bet pictures don't even do it justice!

Nope, pictures don't do it justice.   Just like with sunsets, a camera just can't catch the beauty of it.  A few years ago there was something that happened, solar flares or some such thing, that caused the northern lights to be red.  It was early evening and they were all over the sky, it was SO neat!!!

I know one year a while back we saw a big display of them from here in WI.  I had never seen them in all those colors or that huge before.  Sometimes we would see the white moving but this time they were green and purple and maybe red but not sure.  We watched them for quit a while.  I spotted them leaving Nancy's house.

Yes, you're right!  There was a display that was seen very far south in the Lower 48.

Wow, I last saw them when Brenda and I went on our Alaskan cruise.  When I was a little girl in southwest Missouri, It was not unusual for us to go outside in winter and see them in out backyard!  I guess it is all the industry that limits their viewing now!
I think it is very special that you can see them through your home windows.
